I was at a restaurant the other day when my ah ha moment came. I told my daughter to get a refill to go her friend said no I had enough. I then realized that I always try to get more for my money. Not to waste. Growing up not having always enough made me always try for the most of what ever it is. Buying less knowing I only need a little and I will be fine is the answer.

This! I am a clean plate club member and I will always try to get more for less. This is definitely something that I am working on post op. Buffets are completely out of the question now.

I eat as a distraction from my feelings. I have not had a bad childhood and only one traumatic event in my adulthood - I was already massively overweight then so I guess that doesn’t matter so much. But as I have not been able to process my emotions properly as a child, this has transcended into adulthood and manifested into a massive belly with an obsession with food and fizzy drinks.
It’s amazing how little things in childhood and the development stages can effect our mental and physical health later on down the life.

Lol. I think as long as you're aware of what you're eating and pre-portioning your meals. Taking them with you ahead of time and pre- packing your gym bag so you know you have to go to the gym. I think you will be just fine. As long as you know the nutrition content of exactly what your eating so slider foods don't sneak up on you. You should be fine. I don't think there's anything wrong with you at all.

Now also keep in mind that emotional eating comes in various degrees too. It doesn't have to be an all the time thing where you would even notice it. It could be something as minor as being stressed out one month so you gravitate more towards doughnuts or something vs eggs. (Just an example) it could be something on and off so you may not be aware.

In my case i never thought of myself as an emotional eater at all. I literally was over weight because unhealthy food tasted better at the time than salad so i was making poor choices. But post op even i had a stressful month where i slipped and slowly started making poor choices again. Got myself back on track, but i guess what i'm trying to say is it doesn't have to be a constant noticeable or even traumatic event that does cause that.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
