I had my surgery on April 4th at 5 pm here in the UK. I spent 48 hours in the hospital on fluids as I was unable to keep anything down for the first 24 hours. I swear it was due to the pain meds. I was vomiting blood. I was able to shower and walk around, but continually felt sick to my stomach. Finally, Thursday I refused pain meds and have felt good. I'm not sick to my stomach any more and I have not thrown up. I even went to the store Friday and walked around. I have 4 incisions which itch more than they are sore. I do have a few problems though. My first problem I am having is under my left breast I have this huge amount of pressure (almost feels as if I pulled a muscle). I also get this pressure when I eat or drink. Is this normal? My surgeon said it could be gas build-up still but I constantly burp lol. My second problem is...and I keep seeing different amounts...my Water intake (it took me all day to get in 250ml). I just can not seem to do it. After a few tiny sips I get a horrible pressure in my chest. I'm not using a straw and am drinking really tiny sips. Is the pressure normal? I am able to eat a few tiny bites of Jello and I drank some broth (about 30ml). I just feel like I am hurting myself bc thats all I have had since Monday (other than iv fluids). I am 4 days out so should I be adding in Protein?

Hi there! I was sleeved on 4/5. Spent one night in the hospital. I, too, vomited blood but after that the worst part for me has been sore/painful incisions and itchiness. I went walking around the grocery store today and tired out super quickly. I feel like I'm constantly sipping on Water and I only got 32 ounces in today. That, plus the broth with Protein and Protein Shakes, and I got to the point where I was swallowing and felt gas. It should improve as we go :).

Healing will happen Complications are a set back. It took me 15 days after sleeve to resume daily life I read about others who were doing laundry next day. LOL. You get one chance to heal - It will happen. Best to you

You have just had a massive operation so cut yourself some slack and day by day you will feel better and it will get easier. I had Protein Shakes (made with powder and water) a lot at the beginning which meant I hit Protein and fluid goals daily. It's more important at this stage to get fluids in or you will end up back in hospital dehydrated and you don't want that!

Congrats on the surgery and speedy recovery :D

I was sleeved on 4/3 and my dr told me to stay on Clear Liquids for 1 week. Then start the full liquid phase for 1 week - if I could handle it. Don't push yourself so hard to start on Protein Drinks or soft foods if you're feeling pain/pressure. If I drink anything cold, I have a lot of pressure but when it's warm or room temp, I'm fine. I called the dr about the pressure and he said it was normal and would get better with time. I can tell a difference everyday that it's getting better.

I was sleeved on 4/6 so I'm only a day behind. I can't seem to get much of anything in. Every time I swallow I get do much pressure between my breast and under them. I'm really concerned about becoming dehydrated. Any advice or an estimate of how long this will last for.

I'm surprised that you're doing Protein Shakes already. Have you tried different temps for the Water? Cold water caused me pain but room temp was less pain. Take really small sips. How about broth? Does that cause any pain?

The pain under my left breast went away. I guess it was just how I had slept the night before. Thank Goodness. I walked about 2 miles yesterday (to the park with my son. I just can't sit home). I also went to the store and walked around. My friends came to visit so of course before hand I had to vaccum my house. So I have been very active which I think is helping me. My incision sites are a tad sore, but more itchy than anything (I am told this is a sign of healing). I feel great (have not had pain meds since the day after surgery) other than the fact that I just can't seem to drink enough. I got in about 400ml of Water & about 60 ml of Jello (I can't tolerate sugar free, but the normal one I can tolerate just fine). I also drank about 60 ml of the chocolate slim fast Protein Shake (which does not taste bad at all). I am 5 days out (Surgery was this past Tuesday late afternoon). It is getting better every day. I just pray I do not get dehydrated. I also pray that the smell of food doesn't make me cave because at the moment I'm not hungry at all, but as soon as I smell something delicious I want a bite :(

I was around my family eating huge meals that I would have normally been part of but I'm quite happy sipping my Protein Shakes and being part of the conversation. At this early stage at least, the hunger hasn't hit and I'm making the most of it.

I was sleeved on 4/6 and am not feeling as well as I thought I would. I also have severe pain between and under my breasts that sometimes radiates to my back when I sip. Moving in bed at night remains an ordeal, and still have incisional pain the upper right abdominal area from where the stomach was removed. Almost constant headache. Have been getting in about 40 ounces of Fluid, doing my walks but it is painful to really do anything. Weight is up a little bit, hoped to see something, trying to stay positive, but feeling a bit discouraged.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
