Going into surgery pregnant

Recommended Posts

This is probably a dumb question since I know in the pre op appointment they might do a pregnancy test right? But did anyone go into surgery not knowing they were pregnant?

my pre op appointment is April 5th and my surgery is the 17th. I have not had my period this month yet, I was suppose to get it around the 11th and I am not sure what's going on. I have PCOS, I take birth control and me and my boyfriend are careful. I took 2 pregnancy test which came back negative.

i believe the test because I've waited long enough to take them. But my boobs been sore, I've been having cramps and lower back pain and nausea for 2 weeks and have been extremely fatigued. This morning I was so nausea I threw up, I just keep thinking it's my period about to come but it haven't yet.

I think maybe I am backed up because I have been stressing a lot. but I am scared if they ask me at pre op when was my last period and I tell them feb and they do a test and it's negative and I go for surgery and it turns out I really was prego and I lose the baby. Or maybe I am just going crazy right now lol. I feel like all I can do is wait and see.

I don't have pcos (that i know of) but prior to surgery i NEVER had regular periods. They came when they felt like it, which would be once a year if i was lucky. Once i started taking birth control it was like clockwork. Whenever i stopped the pill so would my periods. I was advised to stop birth control before surgery because of the increased chance of blood clots. If the birth control was regulating your periods and you stopped taking them its probably just thrown it off. Mine was two weeks late after my surgery but since then it's been coming every month without birth control. Im almost positive for me it was weight related. Im 5'2 and have been obese all my life.

Yes BC regulated my period. My period would come on the week of the inactive pills like clock work. I missed 2 of those inactive pills last month but was right on track after that. I just read stories of females getting negative pregnancy results at home and at doctors appointment up to like 4months prego lol. It would just be sad if I go into surgery and turns out I am prego but lose the child because of the surgery.

I can understand that fear. As someone who has no children and no "scares" i can see why this would be scary. And i had no idea that pregnancy could go that long without detection.
If i felt symptoms of a period I'd wait to see if it came because when i didn't i wasted money on tests. Maybe talk to your gyn?

They should do a pregnancy test right before your surgery to be sure. They did one right before they wheeled me in to the OR. They are seasoned at this and will make sure you're not pregnant.

Ditto... they did one on me even though I have my tubes tied and am post menopause. They don't want to do the surgery if you are pregnant so they will check!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
