Getting sleeved on 3/27

Recommended Posts

Gearing up for surgery on Monday. My surgeon allows a light meal before 8PM the day before the surgery. It was also suggested to stay super hydrated to help avoid nausea post-surgery.

My day was 3/27, too. How'd yours go? Like you, my doctor recommended super hydration before surgery, and I'm so glad. I had a near miss with needing IV top up at the ER but drinking is getting easier so it looks like I dodged that one. Just.

Hey I was sleeved also on March 27. Doing ok. Trying to get liquids in. Got 30 ounces of whey Protein mixed with Water today and now having some broth. The gas March 27th-March 30th was unreal (pain even in my shoulders). Burped like crazy March 28th and 29th and finally passed gas on 30th and today (mostly at night sleeping). The most uncomfortable part for me is I feel tightness when I swallow Water etc for a few seconds and then usually burp, although burps get stucm for a sec. The nurse said this is normal since of esophageal and stomach swelling but still scary. Also took dressing off my incisions tonight as per doctor. That sucked. Steri strips stayed on except for one.

Sounds just like me. Are you doing blood thinners? They told me not to wash or pick my wounds. Iv also read people talking about Water - but I wasn't told water. I do something with Protein or carbs only

I am not currently on blood thinners, but had me on heprin shots in my legs while the hosp. They said the same to me about my incisions. They say I could shower and let the Water and soap run over the area, but no scrubbing. I was told whey Protein (42 grams of protein liquid) mixed with water.) ♡

Hi all! I was also sleeved on the 27th. My program has you on half juice/half Water for the first week, until your post-op.

We could remove the gauze and let the shower Water run over the incisions, but we leave our steri-strips on until the post-op.

I'm feeling pretty good. Whew. Hope you all are as well.

Also, not on blood thinners. Had heprin (sp?) shots in the hospital.

Things have been progressing. The hardest day was the nausea the day after surgery. Yesterday was okay but was so tired! I had the blood thinner shots in the hospital but not at home. Tolerating Water okay -- mixing it up with Vitamin Zero and broth. Ordered the sample pack from Unjury as I heard that was a good Protein brand. The tightness and gas comes and goes. When do you think the first bowel movement will happen? Or has it already for you? I've took colace to try to move things along.

I have not had a BM yet. Not sure when that will come...

No BM yet here but considering my diet for the past 8 days, that's not surprising.

The best thing I've found for that tight feeling is to deliberately relax. The more relaxed I am, the easier it is to get my needed liquids.

Protein? Eh, I'm working my way up on it. 35g today. It would be easier if I didn't have to "savor" the shakes. :)

good luck with the Unjury. I have some unflavored and my only complaint is how long you have to stir to get rid of all the clumps or how foamy it gets when you use a blender. Foamy protein is not a favorite texture.

Like everyone else, I had heparin shots in the hospital along with many bags of antibiotics. We were surprised that none has to be sent home with us.

My dr has his own rules for each stage. He calls this one "food that goes easily through a straw". So I've been able to have a bit of strained creamed corn Soup, miso, etc along with juice/water mix, G2, and Premier Protein shakes.

And hopefully not TMI for this forum, but I've been passing gas since my discharge. At this point, only the dogs really notice.

My big bugaboo is turning over in bed at night. Oh my god, OW. That really pulls my bigger incision (next to the belly button). I didn't even manage it last night.

Sleeved on 3/28 with hiatal hernia repair. Nausea was the worst first 24 hours, but doing well now with Water, crystal light, Soup, yogurt, and Popsicles. Down 15 lb since 3/23 weigh-in. I didn't see that coming, so THANK YOU GOD! Back to work 4/4 so fingers crossed. Premier Protein so much better than EAS shakes. Feeling some hunger pangs, but Protein seems to nip it in the bud.

Looking forward to our shared journey.

Had mine on the 27th. Still a little slow with drinking all fluids, I've been out and about, doing house work and cooking. Boy do I think about food, I'm the cook in my family, inviting everyone over all the time and cooking fab. meals. Now all I think about is food. So funny because I cook it and know I can't eat it. I take 1 or 2 bites and I'm done.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
