I'm 8 days post-op and always tired.... weak.

I'm not feeling like I'm going to pass out or anything but just depleted !

After doing small things I feel drained ! My surgeon said it's normal but I'm so ready to have all the energy I hear about :)

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.

So make sure you are following the program requirements. Part of what you are experiencing is recovery from the surgery, but if you fall short on any of these three requirements, this can lead to the condition you are experiencing.

It is so normal. I felt that way until about week three... I still have days though and I'm 6 weeks post op. Just make sure you get your Protein in. I can tell a difference in how I feel when I don't. It's major surgery.. Normal to take a lot out of you. Hang in there.. [emoji846]

Very normal. I am 6 weeks post op and still get fatigued when I do a little more than normal. Even my walks are slower than pre surgery right now.

I figured getting 600-800 calories a day requires some adjustments by the body. Remember how many calories we ate pre op? There were plenty to burn:-)

Give yourself time. Energy will come. I also find that if I'm well hydrated my fatigue is way less.

Take care

Just rest as much as you can or feel you need to. I took off about 3 weeks from work but went in after a week. I didn't make it more than about 4 hours and had to go home from being so tired. After a few months my energy level was crazy. I wasn't able to sleep more than an hour or two a night. About a year out ur seemed to level out. Hang in there; you'll get through it.

It's totally normal especially if you're on liquids only post-op. Your body is still healing & we're not eating real food. I'm almost 6-weeks post off & still tired but not like when I was on liquids only. I think in time when our bodies fully heal & when we can eat more normally, our energy level should be back or even better than ever.

I felt the same way until day 15 or the third week. Once I introduced pureed foods I had a lot more energy! Hang in there!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
