Any actual long term slow losers out there?

I don't mean people freaking out about the week 3 stall or frustrated because they "only" lost 20 lbs the first six weeks. While I am curious what most people consider "slow", I mostly mean people at least 6 months post op, with significant weight to lose, and who averaged around maybe 8-12 lbs a month. Including stalls and everything, averaged over multiple months. And who preferably kept losing.

I just keep reading these success stories of people losing unbelievable amounts of weight during their honeymoon. Granted, I have some serious health problems that have cropped up and have still managed to loose a around 50 lbs in a little under 6 months. And that was after taking over a month to drop back down to DOS weight.

But every other topic on Slow Losers Unite seems to be, "OMG - I only lost x weight and have stalled at week 3!" Or it's evil twin, "OMG, I'm at under two months have have only lost x!" Make that the identical evil twin - even as a total noob I knew at two months your body was still a train wreck and you could really just stay on plan and hope for the best.

I've seen a few comments about long term slow losing from old timers - but also heard rumors they've gone the way of the buffalo.

Sorry I'm cranky and out of touch - I've been busy getting Iron transfusions, a blood transfusion, an extremely invasive ultrasound, and trying to schedule and get ready for next week's hysterectomy. Take ALL THE IRON!!!!

Give me some hope here, people - I'm almost at 6 months, coming up on my 46th birthday, and still have serious amounts of weight to lose. 50 more pounds would still put me at my overweight college self and would be kind of nice to not be in the obese range at some point in my life.

8-12 pounds a month isn't slow weight loss.

I have lost 178/180 pounds ish, and most of it was in small amounts monthly. I would stall for a week or 2 and then in a week lose like 10 pounds. It was stall, loss in chunks

This is my whole first year.

I do not consider myself a slower loser. I think people have unrealistic expectations about what weight loss is like after WLS. Most people are not losing massive chunks of weight each month, the body just can't support that. I have lost another 50 ish pounds so far in my 2nd year, and I still have 4 months to go to hit 2 years. I'm hoping to lose another 20 pounds before the 2 year mark but my weight loss is pretty slow right now.

I went form a US size 28/30 to an 8/10 currently.

Waving my hands wildly here! I am 2 1/2 years post surgery. After my initial 70 lb weight loss (took over a year), I have gained back almost 30. I never made it to below 200 either. I have just joined weight watchers again to help motivate me and help keep me accountable. I need to lose 70 - 80 more pounds to get to my personal goal weight and I'm tired of my knees and back hurting.

This is real life so I'm just going to regroup and start again.

Okay - thanks for the replies. I was trying to be really generous with the 8-12 lbs a month. Outsidematchinside thanks so much for posting specific weights! It's good to see you did in fact keep losing - I can't even imagine losing 20 lbs in a month [emoji47]. (Or 10 lbs in a week.) But continuing to lose 7 lbs a month is still definite progress, and your overall progress is awesome [emoji106].

I was sleeved August 16 and have lost 55 lbs (37 lbs of which post surgery). I'm female aged 60 and have started exercising, mainly swimming and cardio/strength at gym, in the last 6 weeks. I still have severe lower back pain. I've found it hard to quit alcohol but have certainly cut back. So long as scales keep heading South, even slowly, I'll persevere x

I was sleeved Sept. 16, 2016. Weight consistently dropped until late February when I seemed to stall. I started at 370 and am now around 300. I fluctuate between 305-301. I weigh every Monday. My goal weight is 225-250 so I still have a lot to lose. While my blood pressure has dropped and I'm able to physically move around much better I still need to get down to my goal weight. I'm still obese. I turned 70 this year so I hope my twilight years can be easier for me to move around, etc, even with my advancing age. Anyway, I will continue to try to lose, am careful what I eat, and not give up. I think I need to be better at monitoring my Protein and Water intake. Any suggestions?

I lost so steady the first 3 months then went on a 3 month, yes month, stall during which time I had pneumonia so I wasn't eating much for a couple of weeks.

Nothing I did would budge the scale more than a pound each way. Then one day when I weighed in I had dropped 6# and never had another stall so guess my body did the stalls all at once. Stay with the plan. It can be discouraging at times but it does work.

I feel like I am a true "slow loser" and it has been tough. I'm 3.5 years out (as of yesterday!) and still dinging away at the daily grind. I started out with a lot of weight to lose, and never lost more than 5 pounds in a single week after the 3rd month or so. Even today my current weight after losing 100 pounds is more than some people's pre-op starting weight - crazy! But my journey is my own and I'm not giving up just because it's been rough. I wanted to get healthier and I know I already am, even if I'm still struggling to my personal goal.

Back in the early days when I was more active on this web site, people would post about losing 8 to 10 pounds a week, every week - I could only dream of such a thing. Now that I'm this far out, it frequently feels like I never had surgery at all - it's a distant memory to me now - and each day I just work on sticking with my eating plan, staying within my calorie limit per my metabolic testing, and getting at least 2 shakes down per day to keep my Protein numbers where they need to be. I'm just another person trying to get healthy and all I can do is keep on with my plan.

I had a 2 year honeymoon period so was very lucky on that. An illness kept me mostly bedridden for awhile and I detoured somewhat from healthy eating and picked up 30#. I stepped on the scale after a few months and remember sliding down the wall in sobbing tears. Knew my jeans were getting tight but not that much.

I went back to basics and began Protein first and logging my food. Took 6 months but I lost the 30# plus another 20 over the next year and have maintained since. I am slightly over 4.5 years out.

Well, I finally dropped below 300. I've been close for about a month and a half and today my scale showed 298! Maybe I've started losing again. It has been very slow since February but maybe progress is being made and I was just in one of those infamous stalls. We'll see. Will keep y'all posted.

Thanks for sharing her story, I have never seen her on youtube. I stopped watching most YouTube WLS people because most of them have been to Mexico and are not diet compliant and all they do is complain about slow weight loss.

It is cool to see someone like her who kept plugging away at it and got to a normal BMI.

I'm guessing she is short, like 5'2 or 5'3? She posts her weight but never her height. I wear size 8s in the high 180s but I am 5'6 ish with lots of loose skin.

I share her same attitude of never wanting to go back, Once I hit a new weight "decade" I never want to see the last one.

I really enjoyed the couple of videos I watched, thanks again for sharing.

My wls was 7/6/16. I lost the most during the six month pre op stage. Started at 269. Day of surgery weighed 232 and today 189. It's been MONTHS since I have lost anything. I blame no one but me. I have ate all the wrong things and not exercised. I still can't eat much but when I eat sometimes I don't eat what I should. I still drink all my Water. I am thankful I haven't gained, but what a failure I feel for not doing all I can do to get this weight off and I am coming up on the one year Anniversary soon. How do I get the motivation back? I am still considered obese on my bmi. I have been taking off my blood pressure meds and sleep apnea machine. I really just want to get down to 165. That's not probably where I should be according to my chart, but I think for my age (46) and height 5'4 that is a good realistic number for me. Any suggestions to get motivated?

I am almost a year and a half post op. I really can't believe so much time has passed. But, about 9 months after my VSG I had to have my gallbladder removed. One week before my husband had his VSG. Then, I lost my dog Bernadette. I was recovering, he was recovering, and I sunk into a huge depression, worry, anxiety. I forgot about myself. I did not eat like I did before surgery, but I started using things like maple Syrup (raw organic) in my coffee ... or occassionally having a bite of carbs here or there. I drank my calories for sure and so I stopped losing. I haven't lost a thing since gallbladder has been out and, now with a recent stressor I have put ON 20 pounds.

I could cry. I don't know what to do, but thinking about it also makes me panic. SO

Let's regroup?

I notice this post is a little older, so my post my be premature I still have to keep reading this thread, but how are you doing? Do you want to start something together?

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

      Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
