Newbie from Georgia

Hi everyone! My name is Pamela and I am 27 years old. Oddly enough, I was very thin through most of my teenage years, and very athletic. I played a lot of sports in high school. As I got closer to my senior year, I noticed that I was putting on a little weight. I didn't think much about it at the time.

About a year after I graduated, I got married to my high school sweetheart. By that time I had gained over 50 lbs and was at about 200 lbs. I was very concerned about how fast the weight came on. I was also having some female problems too. I went to my doctor and he did several test on me to find out if anything was wrong and the results shocked me! He diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I had never heard of this before. He told me it was a hormonal disorder and one of the side effects was weight gain. He also told me that I would probably have trouble getting pregnant. My heart dropped when i heard this. I always thought when i was ready i would just be able to have a baby. It took 6 years before we were able to get pregnant and by the grace of God we now have a beautiful, healthy boy.

I've tried every diet there is, I think, and nothing ever worked for me. I was 330lbs at my heaviest. I have been blessed with the opportunity to get the band. I've been banded for about 10 days and i am doing great. I am sooo excited about the journey ahead. I lost 13 lbs on the pre-op diet and have lost 16 lbs since my surgery. I know i rambled but i just wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone else has PCOS that has been banded and can tell me about your experience. Thanks for listening!

I lost a lot of weight really fast to begin with. I probably lost over 20 lbs the first two weeks, but believe me, it has really slowed down. I've actually hit a plateau and haven't lost hardly anything in a month. It's so depressing, but hopefully it will pass soon.

It will pass. dont get discourged :)

Thanks for the encouragement Kudo!

Allykat,

It will be worth the wait! I t definitely may speed things up if you could get those appt taken care of. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

When I spoke to my coworker today, who is a licensed professional counselor, she agreed to write my letter for me. She knows I am the type to not do something like this without lots of thought and research and she knows I'm emotionally stable...lol - most of the time!

I've left a call for the nutritionist to call me, so I'll take care of that and have everything out of the way before my appt. I'm hoping I can go on the 14th and get approval pretty quick after that. I'm very busy at work April - May, so I'm hoping, as unlikely as it may be, for a late March date. Doesn't hurt to try!

APPROVED!!

Exactly on the 30th day 1/17/08!!!!!

Well, guys...........I think I finally got past my plateau! I've dropped 3 lbs since Monday and I am soooo excited. Late night snacking is a real problem for me, so I've cut that out completely and also bumped up my exercise. I also started taking Actos plus Metformin on Monday, so maybe that has helped some.

I received a call from the surgeon's office. She will be calling me next week to schedule the dietician appt, another doc consult and anesthesiologist pre-op something or the other....

So it looks like I will be a February bandster.

That's great to hear! You'll be banded before you know it. Let us know how everything is going!

Awesome news about your surgery being scheduled soon.

I've hit a roadbock. Now that I know my insurance has an exclusion clause, I'm at square one with trying to decide what route to take. The good news is that I can then use the first pick I had (Dr. Bagnato) rather than Dr. Crooms in Tallahassee. The bag news is that I'm self pay now. YUCK! I'm checking into options on how exactly to pay for it. My husband is against a second mortgage and we are actually closing on a refi next week. Is Care Credit a reputable company?

Hey allykat!

I'm not familiar with Care Credit, so I can't help you on that part. I can tell you that I love Dr. Bagnato and all of his staff. They have been so great. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking? I will be praying that you find the resources you need to make this happen. Please keep up posted and God bless!

Care Credit is reputable. I have used them in the past. When I used them they had a no interest for a year option, so that was pretty cool. I was very pleased with them.

Georgia Girl, I'm from Thomasville. Thanks for the kind words. I'll probably set up an appointment with Dr. Bagnato soon.

That's great allykat! Like I said, I have nothing but great things to say about them. Let us know how it goes and take care!
