Newbie from Georgia

Hi everyone! My name is Pamela and I am 27 years old. Oddly enough, I was very thin through most of my teenage years, and very athletic. I played a lot of sports in high school. As I got closer to my senior year, I noticed that I was putting on a little weight. I didn't think much about it at the time.

About a year after I graduated, I got married to my high school sweetheart. By that time I had gained over 50 lbs and was at about 200 lbs. I was very concerned about how fast the weight came on. I was also having some female problems too. I went to my doctor and he did several test on me to find out if anything was wrong and the results shocked me! He diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I had never heard of this before. He told me it was a hormonal disorder and one of the side effects was weight gain. He also told me that I would probably have trouble getting pregnant. My heart dropped when i heard this. I always thought when i was ready i would just be able to have a baby. It took 6 years before we were able to get pregnant and by the grace of God we now have a beautiful, healthy boy.

I've tried every diet there is, I think, and nothing ever worked for me. I was 330lbs at my heaviest. I have been blessed with the opportunity to get the band. I've been banded for about 10 days and i am doing great. I am sooo excited about the journey ahead. I lost 13 lbs on the pre-op diet and have lost 16 lbs since my surgery. I know i rambled but i just wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone else has PCOS that has been banded and can tell me about your experience. Thanks for listening!

Pamela

So far so good, Did you eat baked sweet potatos on the pre-op? I saw on a sight that they are okay foods on sugar busters but it doesnt say that I can have them on my sheet from dr b's office. So far I'm doing good, the biggest challenge is not eating with the tv on. I can't believe at how addicted to watching tv while eating I am. I have lost about 5 lbs so far and Im only on day 4 of the diet! I know its just Water but hey, every little pound counts!

5 lbs in 4 days......that's awesome.

I had sweet potatoes too. I ordered them a lot when eating out, it's a good alternative to fries and baked potatoes if they have it. It sounds like you are doing great.

I used to eat in front of the TV a lot too. Now that I'm addicted to this website, I have to watch eating in front of the computer......actually, I'm eating right now :hungry:. It is best not to have any distractions like Jeannie said. I don't do it a lot, but I have to be really careful because I tend to eat more food, when I do.

Hey Georgia Girl!

I just scheduled my psych eval, and have my 2nd visit with the nutrionist scheduled. I hope to be banded by the end of March.

That's great to hear! Sounds like you'll be banded before you know it, hope everything goes well. Keep us updated on your progress!

My band date is 01-17 so I wont be able to meet on that day but its fine with me if you guys go ahead!

Mia, I posted on the Albany GA thread about meeting on Feb. 7th. It hit me after I posted that your surgery was that day. Jeannie wasn't able to make it that day either.

LOL I was wondering why my post never showed up on the albany thread, looks like I clicked on the wrong email to respond to. Feb 7 will be good for me, I'll be limited in what I can have but surely every place will have soup.

I sure do wish I could gather a small group in my area of PCB, FL------Also I wish Albany was so far away....I would drive there. Nancy Bender----please freely e-mail me Joyfulnan@comcast.net or call & I"ll call you right back so you won't have to pay for the call. 850.236.1747 Home--

I'm 55 retired so usually there---if not leave a message & I'll gladly get back to you.

Pamela,

I am new to the group. I live in dublin, ga. I am actually going for my first fill in Moultrie this Sat. 1/12/08 by a lady named Darlene Zebley. My dr. referred her to me. Where do you get your fills?

I get my fills in Albany at the Obesity Treatment Center by Palmyra Hospital. I've never heard of this lady that's going to do your fills. Is she a nurse, where does she work?

How far is Dublin from Moultrie?

We'll make sure we chose somewhere that has a good variety of soup for you. Good luck with the surgery coming up!

Did anyone get a sleep study done before surgery? If so who did you use and how much should I expect to pay?

I had one done a few months before my surgery. I used a sleep study lab in Moultrie, it's a division of the hospital. I have no idea what it would cost. My insurance covered it, do you have any insurance?
