Extreme Fatigue/Disorientation

Recommended Posts

I'm 17 days post op. I'm having issues with waking up before 11am/noon. It doesnt matter what time I fall asleep the night before, my body will not wake up. If i do manage to somehow wake up within 10 minutes i am asleep again. When I do wake up, I'm extremely weak and kind of disoriented. I have an appointment Monday with my doctor and I plan on telling him. However, does this get better over time?

You should call and talk to someone in your surgeon's office before Monday. That's not normal fatigue for 2 weeks out.

Do you use a cpap, and are you using every night? Are you getting in all your fluids every day? How's your Protein intake?

At 2 weeks post-op, I was sleeping normally, walking at least a mile daily and getting around 600 calories.

Thanks for replying. I do not use a CPAP. However, I've been having issues with taking in enough fluids, and I've only been able to keep down 1 Protein shake without getting sick. With ghe Fluid intake i try to do one 8 ounces of SMART Water with ice chips and then 8 ounces of G2 or Powerade Zero.

Im not on track for normal food intake either. I still havent been able to progress past full liquids without complications.

Hi,

I am 13 weeks post op. A little over a week ago I was having dizzy spells and experiencing extreme tiredness and fatigue. It was really bad, I felt lifeless. I knew there was something wrong so I went to urgent care and they sent me over to the ER. After they ran some tests, I found out I was dehydrated and had a urinary tract infection. They gave me IV fluids and a prescription for an antibiotic. They told me I need to drink plenty of fluids. I thought I had been getting in plenty.... I guess I hadn't.

You should probably get in to your doctor right away and have that checked out. I wouldn't wait til Monday.

When you get dehydrated, it is almost impossible to get rehydrated on your own. Go ahead to an urgent care center so they can get you rehydrated within an hour or two. They can also run other tests to make sure that is all that is wrong.

Using my WebMD degree ;), I'd say you're dehydrated and need to be seen at your surgeon's office or an Urgent Care to get some fluids.

At 2 weeks out, you need to be sipping something nearly constantly, and one Protein shake isn't enough calorie-wise, either. If you're having trouble with the consistency of the shakes, you can blend them with ice to 'lighten' the density a bit, or just cut them with milk (Fairlife is a great choice).

I can't stress enough how vital it is that eating/drinking has to be your full-time job for a month or so post-op.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
