Medical Weight Mgmt

Recommended Posts

I've pretty much just started out. I went to an info session and went to my first consultation which counted as my first medical weight mgmt Appt of the 6 I have to do. I really wasn't told to start dieting or anything yet. They gave me a booklet to read over but it didn't give me any diet to follow. What is everyone doing for the weight management required by insurance?

I was the same weight when I started out. I say enjoy the time while you can. I was also given a book and lost 25 pounds during the 3 month prep time, meeting with the dietician's the fitness guru, phys eval, and group meetings before my gastric bypass. My surgery was 11/9/16 saw the doctors 4 weeks later and will not see him or anyone else from Lancaster Baratric until April. A long stretch. I can go to their group meetings once a month, butit is hard in the winter and I am so very tired after working. My present weight is 176. good luck

I see my PCP on Monday to start my 6 month supervised diet too. I lose really well when I manage to stick to them, but I fall off the wagon easily. Terrified that I may do "too well" on this diet and lose the opportunity to be sleeved, and with it, the chance at long term success.

Anyway, I'm breastfeeding, so I can't be put on any WL medication. Assuming PCP will just want me to keep a diary and give me a set amount of calories to keep under & a goal for weekly exercise time.

I was given a daily logger in which I recorded the food and exercise I did each day. I also started to attend Bariatric Surgery Support Group meetings held once per month and after each meeting I received a paper that stated I attended the meeting. I exercised each day 30 minutes of walking. I tracked the calories I ate. This was especially helpful when I ate out at fast food restaurants. So I changed what I ate. I also gave up consuming carbonated beverages and caffeine. By giving up my 6 diet Coke a day habit alone, I was able to drop 20 pounds pre-op. Then each month I met with my doctor and provided them with this information and discussed my progress and tips on how to lose weight.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
