Ok I'm about to get super personal and I need some advise. I was wondering if there's hope for me I was diagnosed with a eating disorder... Binge disorder. Look it up if your not familiar with it. I'm in treatment/counseling for it but I'm super nervous that once I get the surgery I might binge eat and then the surgery would have been for nothing. Any advice?

I agree with the other comment. One bite too many is painful with the sleeve. I can only imagine it would be worse with RNY or DS.

Every one of us has to work on the root cause of our overeating. Surgery is a tool but not a fix.

Have you talked to your counselor about it? Also make sure you mention to your surgeon.

It appears that you have a diagnosis which could help your treatment and the possibility of long term success. Many of us are still working on understanding why we over eat. It is to your advantage to start counseling. You can start to understand your triggers, learn coping skills and create a support system. WLS could give you another tool as you move forward towards better health. Work with your healthcare team.

Just to keep everyone up to date.. I haven't had the surgery due to this disorder and they are not doing anything to try to help me along the way. I'm disappointed.I'm trying to fix myself but it's so hard.

Hey, not sure where you're located, but try to find a psychologist that specializes in eating disorders or go to a specific eating disorder treatment center that can set you up with a team (psych, dietician, support group). I went to Charis in Indianapolis, if you google it you can kind of get an idea of the services they offer. I've been through a lot of therapy for my BED and I still struggle but I have more tools to deal with it now. I also had a year of pre-op appointments and am stable enough that they've approved my surgery. :)

I would highly recommend counseling with someone who specializes in eating disorders. Also working with a Dietician (not a nutritionist) who specializes in eating disorders would be super helpful.

I'm not diagnosed with an eating disorder, but I definitely have some disordered thinking towards food. I've been working with both for months prior to scheduling my surgery and I think it's something everyone considering surgery should do.

*hugs* you can do this

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
