I never let being 5’6” and 270 pounds stop my academic or professional progress.  However, due to not wanting to die early and/or be riddled with diseases; I decided to have WLS.  My general health was poor but only limitedly related to being overweight.  I never been on long-term medications or felt oppressed by being overweight.  However, as I starting losing weight, after surgery, the world changed.  I did not expect the added attention that would come with my weight-loss.  I always conducted workshops, seminars and been filmed.  I have always been funny and had a group of friends.  I never had a problem attracting a mate no matter what the scale said.  However, when I lost almost 90 pounds’ things started to change.  People treated me differently.  It was so much attention that I wanted to hide.  Everyone was talking about my weight-loss.  It made me feel like I have lived the last 15 years unknowingly as “Jabba the Hutt.”

I started going backwards.  Additionally, I had other life events like almost dying, having a hysterectomy and quitting my job which sent me not only to food but towards self-hate.  However, I never let that show to husband or children.  I am now back towards a healthier lifestyle.  I am using my sleeve and losing weight again.  As of 01/21/2017 I have 47 pounds left to lose.  I am workout consistently.  I believe that I can reach my goal weight.  It is a healthy place for my body and mind.
