Recommended Posts

Hi sammy well i lost 12lbs the first wk of surgery due to being on liquids i have to admit i dint do a pre op diet and the day before the op i ate for ireland im not advisin it but dr chris has said himself he has never turned away anyone once they got to belgium and i know other girls who had take away every night for 2wks before the op if ur anyway good and eating healthy enough i wouldnt really worry bout it (i shouldnt be saying that lol) but dr chris just asks for a low fat diet... he said it doent matter if u dont lose weight just that low fat diet will reduce fatty liver and god i would of loved to be able to lie back in the car for my trip home so lucky u...

That made me laugh sparky! The concept of 'the last supper'!! I am already starting my 'last suppers' making sure that I get a few of my fav's in before March 13th!! I am trying to balance it out though.

Thanks flirtylass - 12 lbs is great in a week.

I will defo try and be really good the 2 weeks before and maybe look on the net to find some restaurants that do fish etc. I will be giving my husband strict instructions NOT to eat puddings etc in front of me - they will be banned! He can have a coffee after his meal and that's it!

I'm going with the 4070 euro package so the hotel is included so we'll be near the hospital. I will book an extra night on the end of it. We'll probably end up eating at the hospital as we've got a baby. I will be probably be getting the taxi to the hospital and then my husband will prob come later. I am not really that sure how long (if at all) they will let him bring our baby in (he'll be 7m old and is really happy, no trouble). IF they won't let him in with a baby I won't be too worried as I know that he'll be waiting and some people have to go through the whole journey and op on their own

Hi TC. 8lbs on pre op already?! That's absolutely fantastic, do another weigh in before you leave at weekend and you may not need to go at this rate! It will also help keep your BP low too won't it, another plus? Next Tues will be here now before you've chance to even think about it, especially if you are working extra hours. I will hopefully be posting my first weigh in after I have visited Boots on Saturday - hope it's not embarrassing like 2lbs on or anything, how shameful would that be?! Can't see it though cos only having drinks and bit of Soup and bit of liquid yoghurt up to now - until usual curry Sat night then full roast dinner on Sunday, of course! Bigsister x

Hi Bigsister - I am sooo nervous now I feel sick. I haven't been weighed any more but I'm trying to be good (although I did cheat and have a vodka and coke last night as I was a bit stressed with work - any excuse I know) I usually can lose a bit of weight but it's keeping it off I have the problem with. Good luck with your weigh-in on Saturday. I understand your weight can fluctuate quite a bit just after the op, so try not to be too despondent if it's not exactly as you had hoped, but I'm sure you will be fine. Oh don't mention curry I could kill for one right now. Not sure if I will be on again before Sunday - I will try, but if not I will tell all when I get back. BTW personal question - did you get to keep your knickers on?? T x

:thumbup:hi TC!, feeling fine today, just bit of heart burn..but rennies etc do help..so get some of those in!..just been in shower and changed dressings..theres hardly owt there!.thought the port one would be the biggest but it only looks like one stitch...its the only one you have to have removed by nurse or doc, others dissolve and fall out within 14 days he says ..anyway..youll be off soon!, its good your going on the sunday as youll have all monday there, try and get into brussels, i wish i could but we only had a few hours to do owt in..there isnt much in vilvoorde..but when you come out of hotel..go under railway bridge, and dont bear left towards the train station..go across the crossings and go down the street ahead..it dont look like there is owt there but all the shops atc are at the bottom (inc a hand made belgian choc shop!) then if you cross road there is H&M, C&A and a Lidl shop.. anyway, good luck if i dont hear from you before, hope everything goes ok (it will!)..and cant wait to hear from you when your back!! gillian x

Hi Gillian - it's good to hear you are doing so well and thank you for all the info and tips. It will be nice to have a look round Belgium on the Monday, but if I'm honest I'm not a one for site-seeing really, apart from the bars and restaurants:lol:

I think that flock of birds you had in your stomach before your op have migrated to mine. OMG I'm pooping my pants big time:ohmy:. Take care and if I'm not able to get on again before my op I will catch up with you when I get back and I'm officially one of THE gang. T x

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
