Gastric sleeve led to splenectomy

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 21st Dec 2016, on the 23rd I was vomiting and in pain, the surgeon had cut my spleen and I had lost 4.7 litres of blood. More surgery and spleen removed. My problem is I don't know what is sleeve symptoms and what are splenectomy. It has been 3 weeks. I am always tired, hardly eat and break out in sweats. How are/were others after 3 weeks? Not sure how I am supposed to be feeling.

I was the same way after 3 weeks. I got dizzy really easy and would be close to passing out. I was really weak and could barely leave the house. It was REALLY hard getting fluids in let alone Protein but it got better. I just had to really buckle down and make sure i was holding a bottle of Water at all times. Just make sure your resting a lot. Your body has been through a lot. You lost a lot of blood. Just make sure your resting and sipping that's all that matters. Try really small sips through the day. Hope this helps

Yes totally peed off. Now on antibiotics 3 x per day for next 2 years...huge cut from sternum to pubic, adult student and had to drop out of a course I was doing for my degree due to this. He was the head of the surgery department, took a week to get some sort of an apology. The fact they also discharged me when I was complaining of illness. Even worse we live rural, had to call ambulance, took 2 hrs to get to me.....they called air helicopter, flown straight to resuscitation. One big frickin' mess!!

That is terrible! I hope you recovery fully and don't have any long term effects from this. But I agree about hiring a lawyer! Jeez!

As for your question, fatigue is pretty common with sleeve. I was exhausted for the first 3-4 weeks at least. Once you progress to more solid foods and can get more calories in, that should help give you a bit more energy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
