I have many doubts of the life style and what to wait after being sleeved, many some one you can give me a hand and tell me your experience?

I wish to know...

-Since the sleeve is forever, how it works once we arrive to the desired weight and go on loosing is not needed?

-Any of you thought that the sleeve can also not improve our healthy in the future?

I mean, is a scar in the stomach that can have a problem in any point of our lives.

-once the operation is donde and everything's ok there will be always the risk that the clips can be broken or open and cause a problem?

-How is for you (for those who have the sleeve for a long time) to go to dinner with people who can eat normally? You wish to eat and can't do it? Or you can just eat your very little small portion and be happy?

I'm sorry if I'm doing this direct questions but since you already had the experience I will have very soon who else better than you can help me?

I can't answer all your questions but I know a few people who have had the sleeve surgery. First my Dr's gave me a book about metabolic surgery and Bariatrician care. I have read everywhere that the wls can keep you from getting diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and heart disease. This is why the surgery helps with severe obesity, and the co-morbidities ties that affect all the major organs of the body. It also helps with respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnea , reflux disease, stress urinary incontinence, low back pain . You will have to take Vitamins for life, get proper blood tests. The surgery is for life but alot of people slip around the five year mark and if not careful you could stretch out the stomach back to the way it was. That's alot of what's in my book and that's just the section on the risks of weight loss surgery. I hope this helps you. Good luck on your journey, I am probably having my surgery in May but that's right around the corner and I am excited, I have thought twice about it but whenever I see myself in a storefront window I virtually get disgusted with myself. You have to check out the library's in your area and read everything you can find then you can make your decision. I hope I've helped you.

Hey!! I had my sleeve on December 8th, my surgeon told me before surgery that I wouldn't be leaving the hospital on any diabetic meds ( I was on Metformin 500 mg twice a day and Invokana 300 mg daily).... I thought he was nuts!! I left the hospital on my B/P med and Crestor, but didn't take either, simply because I was afraid of them not doing down and making me sick. So two weeks after surgery I had a routine follow up with my PCP, and I no longer take any medications at all (except my bari vitamins)!!!! THATS WHY I HAD SURGERY! I'm so happy!!!

I'm only a few months out, so I don't know long-term what the answers to some of these questions will be.

But a couple of your questions stood out to me.

As for a "clip breaking"? Once the suture line is healed, there is nothing to "break". You have to be careful the first several weeks to not eat anything that the doctor hasn't approved in order to protect the suture line, but after that, it's not subject to breaking or failing in any way.

As for eating out, I usually box up most of my meal, or share a meal with my husband. I can't eat everything I want, so I have to be very selective about what I choose to make room for in my sleeve. Sometimes if the food is spectacular at a restaurant, I feel a little sad that I can't try/eat as much as I want, but it's really not a huge deal. I am trying to eat more slowly to avoid discomfort, so I don't finish that much before my companions.

I take advantage on your answer for ask you one more thing....

You said "I feel a little sad that I can't try/eat as much as I want" this is because food is delicious and you can't eat it or because you feel the need and ansia to eat?

I'm fat cuz I have alimentary disorders so I wonder if after the sleeve that need to eat even not having hungry will stay.

I ask cuz I'm preparing myself also with a psychologist and wish to know how I'll face this issue even if I'm convinced that seeing myself thin that need will eventually disappear

It's definitely because the food is awesome, and I want to eat more of it because it tastes so good. I don't really have a lot of hunger drive anymore. And I've been working with a therapist for almost a year over emotional food issues, so that's becoming less and less of an issue. Most of the time now food is just fuel for my body, and I don't care if I leave a plate full of it. But there are a couple of restaurants we go to where the food is just so awesome, I find myself a tiny bit sad that I can't enjoy as much of it as I used to. But I take tiny bites, sample off everyone's plate (LOL), and chew slowly so it lasts longer and it's OK. I remind myself that we can come back other times and I can make plans to try each food I want at a different visit, if I want to. It's such a tiny thing compared to all the health benefits I'm getting with the weight loss, that it's well worth it.

I'm 6 weeks post op. I was initially afraid of how it would be when I went out with people. Upside is I always tell company whom I have not told about my surgery that I am just not that hungry to begin with. Then I proceed to order from the appetizer menu. I intentionally look for Protein things, and soft foods. Once our food arrived, ate in very small bites and stopped when I felt full. I've had waiters often ask if they could pack to which I've said no for the most part. I am also a much better and attentive company because when I'm not eating it's about being social when others are chewing, lol, so when there is no food in my mouth there are often words.

What's still odd to me is not drinking and eating at the same time. I would maybe after being done with my food for a half an hour take a sip or two of the Water.

I'm okay with this because as they say nothing will eve taste as good as being skinny feels so it's a good trade off. I'm also hopeful I'll be able to consume a bit more much further down in my journey.

Maintaining is different for each of us. You will add healthy carbs instructed by your dietician. This will help stop your weight loss. Your maintenance plan looks different if you have health issues, mobility issues or an above average fitness level.You can indulge once in a while If I gain weight, I go back to my bariatric weight loss diet and re-evaluate my exercise effort. The work does not end after you hit goal.

Not improve would be complications. Always a risk of complications for any type of surgery.

Improve health was one of my main reasons to have surgery. Type one diabetic well controlled, No colesterol issues, No more CPAP and Improved heart health. I am off many medications. I don't see Dr's as much because my labs are all good.

Look up statistics and ask your surgeon. I have had no complications so far.

You wish to eat and can't do it? With the sleeve, you are satisfied by smaller portions. When you are maintaining your weight you can indulge. If you see the scale move back up. You go back to your bariatric diet and put more time in at the gym. Life is normal I enjoy food and socializing at dinner.

Or you can just eat your very little small portion and be happy? Its' hard for you to believe right now. But you are going to be happy with smaller portions. You won't be drooling over other people's meals. The thought of eating like I used to makes me realize how bad my relationship with food was. Food no longer controls me.

I am only a couple days post op but I have been doing weight loss for most of my life and I have many eating out tricks that have helped me over the years. First I try to be the one to pick a restaurant or I try to push my few suggestions. This allows me to prepare in advance what I will eat by going online and reviewing the menu. I have even called ahead and asked nutritional questions regarding how certain dishes are prepped. This helps me avoid that long conversation with the server and the eye rolls from friends and family about me being "picky". Sometimes if my sister is with me, we go in with a plan to split a meal, or depending on the group I'm with and how comfortable I am with them I will ask the server to only give me half my meal on a plate and the other half already delivered in a too go box. Also it's nice to find restaurants that will let you order items a'la carte, many will do this even if not on a menu and again that can be discovered with an easy phone call, if you tell them you are on a special diet they are mostly very accommodating. Well and one benefit to not drinking and eating at the same time is that restaurant drinks are way overpriced, so it saves money. I also like to suggest going out to breakfast/brunch because I can usually get a omelet with some veggies and you don't have to deal with the whole appetizer/drinks/desserts issues.
