  1. I'm finding so many conflicting and confusing guidelines. My doctor tells me 3 weeks clear liquid, 3 puree, then on to real foods...but then my friend gets done same procedure different doctor and she can begin eating after one wk of clear, 1 week of puree,.... Then I watch videos of Dr. Rutledge (creator of this surgery) online and he says he has patients who eat or have soup immediately and that people don't have to be on soft foods one whole month, and Dr. KULAR, frmer president of MGB club, saying he has patients who eat right away, like two days after eating things like beans. Just small. Skipping liquid stage. When did you all begin eating? Only asking for curiosity not to give myself excuses for breaking my docs orders... 2. Hi all, I travelled to Turkey and had a tummy tuck with lipo on the back. No muscle repair was needed, thank goodness. 1st day and 2nd day were rough. By day three it seemed to be getting better. Today is day 5. There is no pain near the incisions, and I have to just be careful to keep them from getting wet. I still have a drain. I started with two but doctor removed one of them today and the other one is still in and getting fluids. For those of you who have gone through this, any words of tips, what to look out for for, what to look forward to, and anything else will be so appreciated.

Tummy tuck - lipo - Turkey

I’ve literally watched every tummy tuck video on YouTube. Motivated. What is the diet? One of the bad things about getting the tt done abroad is that I have very little aftercare instructions. I am really careful not to overeat, but at the same time am sure I need protein and fluids, but what else has helped with the healing? Pls send any great links you may have, my way? Thanks

  5. Hi all, Post op- MGB August 18, I started IF at the beginning of February. I'm doing 16:8, and have hours of fasting between 5pm and 9am, and eating window of 9am - 5pm. Within 4 days, I feel less bloated and am down 3 pounds. I will keep this diet for this entire month, and will see if it's more effective. I've been undergoing a very frustrating stall which has lasted weeks/months. I'll keep you updated often.

    MGB weight loss stalled

I Had MGB on August 6, 2018. It was a revision from VSG. My surgery weight was almost 260, today almost 5 months later I’m at 240. I feel discouraged, but will keep at it. im having little restriction so im keeping mindful about staying under 1000-1200 calories, getting protein in first. Also drinking 2 liters of water. in a desperation, I’ve begun 16.8 IF... this is not the result I was expecting from a revised surgery, 4 months in. :-/
  7. Hi all, I am getting my surgery today. Excited but nervous too. I am revising from Sleeve to MGB. I look forward to this tool being the right one for me. My only fear and worry is that I need to take vitamins every day and for life. How are you all coping and what can you tell to put me more at ease. What was also the hardest for you? Thanks Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Surgery August 6 2018 - so nervous

Thank you, Ellie..Best of wishes to you! Recovery is going well. I have not had any pain since I've gone home. Sleeve and MGB feel different too. Although I'm not eating yet, I can tell from just drinking liquids that i will need to pace myself better than when i had the sleeve, which had the restriction. I fear dumping more so, I worry about how I will react to things, like hours later. Sugar is a no, no... which different from the sleeve too. No hunger. Too early to say this for sure but if things continue going well like this, I'm wondering if I should have gone with the MGB from the start. Best of wishes to you. Surgery August 6 2018 - so nervous

Thank you all so much. Appreciate it. Recovery is going very nicely. Almost even smoother than my sleeve, provided I dont attempt anything crazy like eat wrong thing or overeat. Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I have been researching this form of bypass and am leaning towards having it. Is there anyone on the forum who can give me more information ? Anyone who has had it done or know someone? Much appreciation.
  12. Does anyone have any information on lapband after VSG surgery or have had it done and can share the experience? MGB or RNY was suggested as possible revisions but I fear these options due to the malabsorption. Thanks for any comments.

    Lapband surgery after VSG?

Found an encouraging article online: https://www.sages.org/meetings/annual-meeting/abstracts-archive/band-over-sleeve-a-safe-alternative-to-achieve-further-weight-loss-and-reduction-of-co-morbidities/ BAND OVER SLEEVE: A Safe Alternative to Achieve Further Weight Loss and Reduction of Co-Morbidities Amy Banks, MD, R Harrell, MD, J Foote, MD. Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners, Michigan State University and Grand Health Partners. Introduction: The vertical sleeve gastrectomy was traditionally performed as part one of a staged bypass procedure in the super obese patient population. The weight loss achieved from this surgery alone is often substantial and frequently patients do not require or desire the second stage malabsorbtive procedure. The vertical sleeve gastrectomy is one of the most common weight loss surgeries performed today. Over time, however, weight gain often occurs and we present a new technique of using a laparoscopic placed adjustable gastric band (LAGB) over a vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) to aid in further weight loss and reduction of co-morbidities. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of five patients who underwent LAGB placement following a VSG. BMI, weight loss from VSG alone and weight loss from LAGB plus VSG were reviewed. Percent excess body weight loss (%EWL) for LAGB alone and for LAGB plus VSG was calculated. Co-morbidities and their resolution as well as any postoperative complications were evaluated. Results: All five patients achieved further weight loss after placement of the adjustable gastric band over the vertical sleeve gastrectomy with an average of 40.4 lb (range 31-64 lb) and an added %EWL of 32.2% (range 12.7% – 44.1%). Total %EWL following VSG plus LAGB placement was 57% (range 43% – 67.5%). The average BMI decreased from 56.6 pre-operatively to 43.9 post VSG and down to 37.6 after VSG plus LAGB. No major complications occurred during the 31-month average follow up (range 15-46 mo). An average of 3.6 adjustments to the gastric band were needed post operatively. Several co-morbidities resolved after VSG, and there was even further resolution of co-morbidities after LAGB plus VSG. One patient was intolerant of the band and required eventual removal. Conclusion: This case series introduces a novel approach to add to the repertoire of bariatric procedures following a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. There are advantages to placing an adjustable gastric band over a sleeve gastrectomy in lieu of converting patients to a malabsorptive procedure such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or a biliopancreatric diversion with duodenal switch. We demonstrate that certain patients can achieve further weight loss from laparoscopic placement of a gastric band over a vertical sleeve gastrectomy without complications. Further studies still need be done to determine the efficacy of this procedure to provide long-term weight loss in this patient population.
  15. Dear all, feeling lost. ive stalled badly last two months. im now 241, down from surgery weight of 295. Since November I feel like I should be much less than I am. This distresses me. I know everyone's journey is different but my body is sooo stubborn I honestly don't know what to do. i exercise 5 days a week. but I have started to eat more. 1200 calories. this far out please tell me what the magical number for eating is. It was so much easier in the beginning because it was so clear. I don't know right now in my journey. The number of calories, water, protein etc are a bit fuzzy. please help.
  16. Travelled alone. Amazing experience. There was someone checking on me every hour, I truly never felt alone. The hospital has netflix so I binge watched all my favorite shows. Even after the surgery, there was someone who was assigned to me who took me out to the city for sightseeing and walking off the gas to feel better. I felt safe, taken care of and extremely satisfied. I was really supported by the BariatricPal staff and Dr. illan was amazing. He came to see me before the procedure to put my mind at ease, and the nutritionist was very helpful too. In short, don't be nervous about going alone. I did, and I would highly recommend this and do it again. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleevers, Ramadan and fasting.

Dear all, I'm bumping up this topic from last year to say that I will begin observing this year. I am today six months post op and Ramadan starts this weekend. A few thoughts: I will set a goal for my water intake and make it a full priority. Vitamins I will take as well, at breaking of fast. I think I will return to protein shakes, and incorporate this to my meals once I have broken my fast. What is a good amount for intake of protein? I am staying fully away from carbs. I Love breakfast foods like eggs etc. so I will have lots of it. It's very hot right now, so I worry about dehydration the most. How about constipation? If I drink enough water, should I worry about this? I would drink teas but fear losing my water intake. Above all I will be very flexible with my body. If I don't feel good any particular day, I will listen to my body and understand that I will not fast that particular day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I'm a little embarrassed about my surgery scars. I have been using many different ointments such as mederma, etc but to would like to ask you all who have gone through this surgery, do these scars ever go away to the point of not visible? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    "Fat Clothes"

I went to the tailor this past week and made 4 dresses smaller. Felt amazing. On a side note, I've realized I am slightly nervous about trying new clothes on. What if I'm still too big, and get disappointed. This is my 4th month post vsg, and although I have lost a lot of weigh (40+ pounds), I feel like I maybe one more month before I try.
  22. Hi all. I have experienced hair fall for the first time this week. and it was a lot too. Have any of you November sleevers noticed yet?
  23. Hi all! My highest weight has been 313 at pre op I began at 306 11/25 surgery day: 294 Current weight: 261 Today is 111 days from surgery (week 15) Loss from HW: 52lbs loss from preop: 45lbs loss from surgery: 33lbs I feel great health wise. No hair falls. I am all protein and water. I have had several stalls where I lose inches but not pounds. I feel like I should have lost more. My clothes are all too big. Many NSV's as people are really noticing my face and body getting smaller, but I still would like to have lost a lot more than this!
  24. Did you have this kind of pain since day one or did it start a little later?
  25. Today is my 50th day post surgery! I'm happy with my journey so far! Learning a lot along the way!
