I had to do 12 months with dietician and lose 10% of my weight. It’s went by quicker than I thought. My friend had surgery over a year ago and she has done awesome. She was the main reason I chose Dr Fitzer, but I have heard nothing but good things.

I should be glad that my insurance company requires "only" 6 months. I'm glad the time has been going by fast for you, though. I started this journey by attending a WLS seminar at Fair Oaks in 2014, but "having my insides mutilated" scared me to death back then. I just imagined waking up from surgery in a panic and shrieking, "what have I just done to myself?!" But now I'm ready.

Well said. I'd do it 1000 times over. I had no issues at all the recovered like a champ. Life changing!!!!

That's really good to hear. I can't wait to be able to say "yes" to things like going on a zipline, a helicopter tour in Hawaii, or even the simple things like going up a ladder or my attic stairs knowing that I'm under the "maximum allowed weight" for all of these things. And sitting in booths in restaurants.

Your weight loss looks fantastic, SampTheChamp. You are killing it! How much have you lost in the first couple months after surgery, if you don't mind my asking?

Well I do and I don't, I did have a date of February 15th,then I was told I'd have to have another test an upper g.I. with contrast medium. That was moving along and then another snafu, this one's potentially bigger, my case is being reviewed by the Bariatric Care team Tuesday, one of my evaluations came back faulty. i know I'm not making sense but I'll be able to talk more and explain Wednesday. Right now it looks insurmountable but maybe I'm too close to the problem to give an objective opinion. Promise I will explain in greater detail, but in the meantime prayers would not be out of place.

My insurance is being ridiculous with a lot of things, I was upset at first that it was 12 months; but finally just pushed through...I see her on Friday next week and then I will have March and April and be done. I like Suzanne and email Heather a lot. I know exactly how you feel...I walk in a restaurant and make sure my husband remembers to ask for a table instead of a booth...I have a almost 7 year old that I want to do things with... I still struggle losing weight. I can’t take any meds, pet insurance...and had to lose 40 pounds!

Praying that it is indeed surmountable, you'll prevail over it, and get cleared for surgery.

I had gastric bypass 11 months ago. Dr. Fitzer is awesome!

Started at 240 and today I am 138

best decision ever!

Wow, you've done great! Did you discuss sleeve vs gastric bypass with Dr. F? Seems that most docs want the patient to choose, but the more I read about both, the harder it seems to be to have a preference.

I originally went in thinking I was getting the sleeve...he said he’d do which ever one I wanted, but did say that I would do better with bypass...after looking into both, I decided to go with the one that has been around longer.

I decided on bypass because I had Type 2 diabetis. Dr F wouldnt tell me either way. Other then I would be a good candidate for either. My goal weight was 150 which I have passed. I feel great and have never been sick not once. My labs are perfect. Follow what they say and you will do great!

My worry is that I’m not doing enough now...practicing not drinking while eating or not being more strict on the things I eat... I want to succeed... did you have certain things that you did pre op to prepare?

I only had a 3 day clear liquid pre op diet. He will tell you what weight he wants you at that you have to meet by your surgery date. Dont play into it. Trust me after the surgery you wont want to eat. Follow the 7 week post op diet, take your Vitamins and you will do fine. And - no more diabetis!! Im 💯 healthy

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
