My mom stayed and it was helpful to have someone do things so you don't have to get out of bed (get chapstick, move tray, get remote if it drops etc). Might be worth asking the hospital if they have a pull out bed in the room.

My mom stayed with me so my husband could stay with our kids.

I felt horrible because there was no chair or roll out for her. She slept on the floor. It was awful. We don't live close and she refused to leave because I wasn't doing well after surgery. I feel guilty still but she wouldn't go!

Unless your husband or mother absolutely wants to, it's not really useful at night, I personnaly dozed off between trance-like waking moments when the nurses would check on me and horrid nonsensical nightmares!

But it was nice to have family visits during the day though :)
