get banded right before the holidays?

I have my consult on the 24th. They say after that, it takes about a month or so to get the surgery done. That would put me at the end of October...then were dealing with the liquid phase, mushies etc...all around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

HONESTLY, would you wait until after the Holidays and just start fresh right at the first of the year? Please answer honestly. I am having a hard time with this one!!

Thanks!

Brandy

I think I would say WAIT, because I am a food addict, and I would want to get in one last free for all. But....... what would you tell an alcoholic considering rehab before the holidays? The big issue is that when you do it, you have to commit, and if you know that committment isn't possible for you until after the holidays, then WAIT. I think the band works the best for those who are desperate for change, but I can't honestly say that I would have done it during the holidays :lie:. ("They're tryin' to make me go to rehab, but I say no,no,no...")

Brandy--

Great name by the way..

I think it is a great time to make a recommittment to yourself. Just think of being 10, or 20 pounds lighter on christmas! What a great gift to you! :car: I think it is never easy whenever you get banded we can all think of some holiday that we eat too much at! I was in August so of course there was labor day, halloween the list goes on on on!

You deserve to start a new life right away!

:P

i agree with BBK and Jack. why wait? think of how much you could lose by Christmas!

i was banded on 10/9/06 and was able to eat a little bit for Thanksgiving. it was nowhere near the gorgefest of the year before that!

best of luck to you.

For me it would definitely be a GO for the holiday time. Otherwise you're probably just going to stuff your face through the holiday period. Why start out 5 pounds heavier just because of the holidays? And holidays definitely give me license to eat anything. It's always been like a "get out of jail free" card for some reason. I have zero control over the holidays and have never even TRIED to keep myself from eating everything in sight. This is a great time to start.

I would say wait. I was banded recently, am in the 'soft food' phase, and am struggling with it. And that's with none of the intense temptations that come with the holidays! :faint: I say give yourself until right after the new year, when the temptation is less, to get started. I do agree with one of the earlier posts: I ate like crazy right before my surgery and put on 5 extra pounds unnecessarily. Definitely don't do that! Just allow yourself the opportunity to enjoy the holiday goodies in moderation. liquids and mushies will be difficult at that time.

I would go for it. Do it now. When I first started this process, I was told it would be at least 6 months. Seemed like forever and it would put me right at the middle of November. Then I was told a year. But much to my surprise, I'm already approved by my insurance and my date is Oct. 5. I can't wait. I'm doing this for me, just as you are doing this for you. Do it!

I met with my drs office this week and they said if everythnig goes smoothly I could expect to be banded right around thanksgiving as well. I personally was happy with it - thinking that by spring when all the sweatshirts and heavy clothes come off - I could be looking substantially better. Initially you may regret it - but I think come spring - it would be worth it.

I also say go for it now...for all of the above reasons. BUT only you really know if you can handle following the post-op diet during the holidays. Do you know what your post op diet will be? If not, ask the office what it is, then make an educated decision.

I wouldn't wait. I think it's best to get into the mind frame that celebrations with family and friends DON'T have to revolve around food, but of being together and thankful for what we all have. It's hard so if you're forced to do it, you will see that it is no big deal.

I went through my "last meal" mentality. I thought about it all day and where we were going to go. It wasn't as good as I had been imagining all day, so it was disappointed. But then I remembered that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!

Go for it!!

I was also debating about doing it the end of this year or the beginning of next year but not because of the holiday reasons - I am debating on when to go on vacation and I dont want the surgery to conflict with going away - anywho i finally made the my mind up that as long as i am approved i will have the surgery as soon as I can. I want to get it done and be on my way to the new me as soon as possible and also for me my insurance deductible starts over the beginning of the year so I would rather do it before then.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
