Slip in pre op diet

Recommended Posts

Not gonna get into all the details but I slipped on my diet today. Not by choice just the circumstances at that time. So because of that I had a salad with chicken in it No Ranch dressing or anything. My surgery is on the 10th I've been sticking to my liquid diet and I've lost 9lbs since starting last Friday. Is there a chance of me blowing it for my sleeve? I'm currently 268lbs

call your doctor and let them know and stick to the liquids for the remainder of the time. You doctor is the only one I would trust to make that judgement.

I also slipped up and did way worse than you did....I ate a tenderloin and egg biscuit 3 days before my surgery. I did tell my doctor and he really did not get on to me. I did fine during surgery. Just make sure you stick to it from now on until your surgery.

I would make sure you're mentally prepared for post op. I'm not sure what your circumstances were, but you did make a choice to eat off plan. Pre-op that can be a slip up, post-op that can be extremely dangerous. Leaks are real.

I suggest you watch the surgery on youtube so you can see just how raw your stomach will be. You will have to make hard choices regardless of circumstances. Make sure you set yourself up for success.

Best wishes!!

For me it was Really it is my intestines they want to keep clear for a few reasons. Like Constipation afterward, reactions to meds ect. I ate very lean but did not do the full liquid diet. I lost 7 lbs in one week and thought see I did ok. Until constipation became so intense afterward. So I paid the price.

@@rolosmom7 I had a shake before leaving home but we found ourselves in an emergency situation and I couldn't leave where I was and the only thing available to eat that wasn't bad was a salad only alternative would've been to not have anything but Water from 10a - roughly 9p I was only suppose to be gone from home an hour. I'm a chronic Migraine sufferer so that would've made things worse. Things happen! Thanks everyone

I keep Protein shakes in the car as a "just in case." I haven't had to use one of them yet, but in these kinds of situations, they would come in handy. What would you do in this same case if you were in the first week or two post-op when you risk injury in eating the salad or chicken? That's the point @@rolosmom7 was trying to make...

You'll be okay. I didn't even have a pre op diet, but stick with yours per your surgeons orders, ESPECIALLY a couple days before surgery.

That being said, failure to prepare is preparing to fail, especially post op. The best way to ensure success post op is to be prepared for all the situations life will throw at us from just....living. Too many of those "things happen" situations gets people right back where they started. You, and only you, are in complete control of your success. Don't ever think anything different.

Yes, exactly. I know life happens when it's least convenient - I keep 2 shakes and a bar just in case!

If you had to lose any weight pre op than you should be fine. My doctor said the liver isn't going to shrink that much more in 2 weeks than it has with the dieting beforehand

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
