Hi everyone, I just got my surgery date today.........November 29.....I was really hoping it was earlier in Nov. but my surgeon is going out of the country from Oct. 26th to Nov. 9th so that set everyone back. I am just glad to finally have a surgery date and am already counting down the days even though I am sad that I have to wait so much longer!

CONGRATS Sassafras - I know it is so much farther than you anticipated but at least you still have a date now. I still don't have a date, but I am praying everyday that they give me one soon.

Thanks smilin! I am happy that I have a date but I am trying not to get too excited so I don't jinx it. I hope that you get your date soon!!! I was kind of a pain, I kept calling my surgeon's office every few days to see if they had a date then finally when I called Monday, she said she had just scheduled it!

:cry I am sad.....I called the surgeons office this morning and the nurse said that the surgeons have only been scheduling 12 surgeries a month. There are 3 surgeons and they only do surgeries 3 days a weeks (one day for each surgeon a week). And only 3 surgeries each of those days. Then she informaed me that I am 19th in line on the list, which looks like I will not be getting in until December now unles 6 other people cannot go in November...I am trying with all of my strength to not go overboard and eat out of emotional need. I just thought it was going to finally happen soon but now I have to wait an additional month more than I expected.

:think

Aw, smilin, I am so sorry to hear that! I know how you feel. I could have had mine sooner too but my surgeon is going out of the country from Oct. 26th to Nov. 9th and when I first got approved there were like 4 people ahead of me so that's how I got shoved to the end of Nov. He is the only surgeon in the practice. You must live in a big city-three surgeons!

Try to think positive. You never know, they could still get you in Nov. yet. And if not, you have waited this long..........I know that is not very encouraging but that is the only way I could keep myself from being too sad about having to wait so long. Try not to eat out of sadness...easier said than done. I know....I put on like 30 lbs just waiting to get approved. Don't run off to the Dec. 2007 thread just yet...I would miss you! Hang in there and don't be sad. Good things come to those who wait.........

Thanks Sassafras!!! That helped, I am doing ok on the food side i guess not losing but not gaining either. I went to the Doctor's today because I am having someweird stomach pains and when they weighed me it was exactly what I weighed 2 weeks ago when I saw my surgeon. I won't leave to the Dec. 2007 thread just yet, I am going to hang in there. Besides I have grown to love the support I am getting here and I am a huge fan of comfortability, which I do feel here. I will hang around even if my surgery ends up being in December if everyone doesn't mind. Have a great night all! And thanks again!!!

Wow, looks like we are getting a bigger group now (pardon the pun) for November. Since mine is the 1ST..I'll be the guinea pig!

I just thank GOD I will be on Optifast during this Halloween season. I love those little candy bars, and now I won't be able to have them! I don't have to ponde...should I or shouldn't I like I do every year...this year the answer is NO..move on. I work in a grocery store and I look at the display all day. I am going to look at all the bags and imagine them hanging from my butt, like saddle bags!

Patty, maybe you will be the first in Nov and I will be the last! Those little candy bars tempt me too. My hubby and daughter always insist on getting Reese cups and I love them. I don't know if I could take working in a grocery store or anywhere else near food for that matter. I worked in fast food management for 10 years which helped greatly in getting me where I am today.......I will be on Optifast for Thanksgiving!!!! I am ok with that except that I LOVE the dressing! I wish that I could have some just one last time!

Smilin, hang in there! At least you are not gaining. I am trying to lose a few more between now and my pre-op diet. How are your stomach pains? Definitely stick around with us! I have been lurking on here for 2 years and am so happy to be meeting some people finally! We are all in this together! :waytogo:

Thanks everyone, I am feeling same ol', same ol'. The pains are the same, it is weird. The doctor went ahead and order a whole bunch of blood tests because when he did the other test it came up negative for infection. Well I will see next week.

Hey everyone! I am planning to be banded on November 1st. Went for my first consultation yesterday and I don't need anything but blood work done. My insurance has to approve of course but he said that should only take about a week. He told me to pick any Thursday starting in October so I am thinking November 1st would be the best for me. I am soooo excited and nervous at the same time. My, how my life is going to change! Have any of you been told of a pre-op diet? My doctor said that it's not necessary. Well, good luck to you all !

I'm November 6!!! I live in ND and am on my pre-op diet of 1500 cal/day and 40-60 gr of protien/day. I will be on the Clear liquids 2 days before surgery. I am struggling with all the emotional issues surrounding overeating and diet failure, fear of failure after the surgery, fear of what people think of me....etc! I have had very good support from others on different threads, I can see this site will be my life-line as well as some of the other places I'm reaching out to locally....and my surgery team.

Penny

5'4" 254 BMI 43.4

I still have a long ways to go until Nov. 29th but I got a bunch of pre-op appts scheduled today and it is finally sinking in that this is really going to happen! I have bloodwork and ekg on Oct. 2nd, then on the 10th I have to go to a pre-surgical seminar for 3 hours, then see the dr. again for more bloodwork, see the surgeon Nov. 15th, and then surgery Nov. 29th. It really seems like it isn't for a while but I know it will be here before I know it. I'm just so scared something is going to happen that I won't be able to have it! I am so jealous of everyone that gets to go before me!!!

Smilin, how are you doing today?

STRESSED OUT!!!! My roomate and I had a falling out and I am moving now, great, just before my surgery. Now I will be living alone with my daughter. Currently I live with my daughter and two other adults as well as my parents are right across the street. I won't be moving too far away only about a mile so that is good. But financially it sucks! So that will be one more stress to add the pot. I just pray I will be strong enough to stay away from the stress foods during this time. I trying to consume myself into some activities at church to prepare myself to deal with all this stress, and it seems to be helping a little bit. I think I will be ok?!? At least I hope so, I want to succeed at this so badly, and yet I am so afraid of failure with this band. I feel like this is my last chance at living a healthy adult life and possibly having more children one day. Ok I know, I am rambling on and on. I hope you are doing much better than I am.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket. I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
