5 Days Post Op and feeling Regretful

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else feel this way at first too?

I'm having a hard time with getting the Vitamins and Protein down and last night I woke up several times choking on regurgitation.

I knew the beginning was going to be a challenge, but I'm hoping to hear positive stories of how it got better for you, & if the first couple weeks was a challenge.

I'm looking forward to when I can start thinking positively about making this decision.

My surgery is Tuesday. My dr & nutritionist say no Vitamins til 2 weeks. It's going to be a struggle to get the Protein to ideal numbers because the slow drinking and portion size is far more important in the beginning. I'm sorry you are struggling. Have you called your surgeon's office? Maybe his nurse could advise you. Hang in there.

I agree with @alisa5150 call your surgeons office.. Regurgitating isn't right.. And sounds like you're filling your belly too full

Thank you both!

The nurse in the hospital told me I could go up to 2 oz every 15 minutes so now I feel like that may be too much. It makes sense about why it's trying to come back up and sit in my throat.

Another thing I found out ( not soon enough for myself) but my Surgeon finally told me that it will take time to reach those goals for both the Protein and fluids. But the main concern is drinking your fluids it doesn't take long for us to become dehydrated so keep sipping! Also later on your protein counts toward your fluids per my Surgeon after I was totally stressed about it!! LOL

BTW I was told to start my Vitamins before my RNY. See different guidelines for each TEAM>

Yes I feel like it has been a source of stress too thinking I'm going to get sick not taking Vitamins or drinking enough Protein.

Also- I started my Vitamins 4 weeks before surgery. But they were not the kind I have to dissolve in Water. The taste made me gag in addition to the regurgitation!

So you think my main focus is to just sip in small amounts?

Have you heard anything about the Vitamin patch? I was thinking of trying that until I can take the pills again.

So I actually ordered some of the Vitamin Patches. I asked my surgeon about them before I did and he said there isn't any reason why they shouldn't work and if that's what I wanted to do he didn't care, as long as I am getting vitamins is what is important to him. I got them because I don't want to add that to one more thing to stress getting in. I'm having surgery on 10/25.

Has anyone tried them and gotten blood work back on them and had blood work done on them?

Here's the deal....the first several months is rough. That is a reality but I promise it does get better every day.

My surgeon had me stop my Vitamins 2 days before and did not start me on them again until i was 30 days post op. Every surgeon is different.

Just take it one day at a time and focus on liquids. If you dont get enough, that it itself can make you feel miserable.

Djmohr- I was hoping you'd respond! You always have such a kind and genuine response to everyone on these boards.

I have to remember this and know that down the road is when I'll feel better about everything!

Thank you so much!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
