justwaitin2b banded in October and a bit scared

Wow - Okay well I'm new to this forum, not really sure what I'm doing. I am 38 yrs old, and have 7 1/2 weeks until I am banded. I have read everything I can find on Lap Band surgery, and feel prepared medically............ but mentally - I am scared!! I am scared that if I put myself and my family through all of this, and it doesn't work - what then??? I am 114kgs (sorry not good with pounds - I'm Aussie) and am not very tall at 5ft 4....... putting my BMI at 45. I have waited 10 months for my insurance period to expire, so I can get this done, I have tried every other weightloss plan/diet known to man, and I have researched every detail............... why then do I feel like screaming or crying half the time, and excited the rest...................I feel lonely, and scared! I can't see myself losing the weight, and changing my life like so many of you have....... it does not seem real.

I don't have many close friends I can talk with, and the ones I do have don't understand.................. I'm hoping for support and motivation from this forum, and I look forward to getting to know you all - Cheers Karen

Yes, I have had the same problem... since I made my decision and my banding is scheduled, I'm eating foods that I don't normally eat. Like I'm saying goodbye, I think. The problem is they don't make me feel good, just temporarily taste good.

I've been doing that for the last 10 days, but decided that today I'm gonna grab hold of the food monster and throttle it back. Wish me luck!

Hi Everyone...i've been mostly reading these last couple of weeks...difficult to get on he computer with 4 teenagers....Mscas3...

hello from a fellow New Englander ..... i'm live in fairfield, ct and i'm being

banded on october 31st....it's funny how all doctors have different post-op diets.....i have 1 week only clar liqs, 1 week full liqs, 1 week mushies,

1 week soft, nd then the usual lowfat, sugar free diet.... plus... i have to stay overnight in the hospital...... it seems as though most people here

go home the same day ????? hope to keep in touch with everyone!!;)

Hey guys! I went for my preop on Friday. Nerves are beginning to set in a little. My surgery is Wednesday. I have a little diarrhea today, but I really think it is just nerves. Normally I am not a nervous person. This is just such a major life choice. One I know I will be glad I made. I am having to make myself post this morning. I kinda just want to crawl into a little cacoon and wait for the surgery to be over.

Hey Renewedhope,

I am sure I am going to feel the same way. I have 2 weeks to go, my preop is this Thursday. Just hang in there I will pray for the days to go by fast for you, but you have to let me know how your doing as soon as you can!

Eileen,

Hi and welcome! I think everyone stays over night at least everyone I know of. Good luck and let us know how you are doing!

Best Wishes,

:clap2:I was so scared the night before surgery. I knew some one in my town that had already had the band. So I called her that night and she made me feel so much better. I had mine in July. No problems at all. And really you can still eat the foods you like after you get adjusted to the band. Which won't take long. You just can't eat as much. And isn't that what we all want?

I'll pray for you. I know things will go well.

I went to my Dr office this morning for measurements and preop pictures. The lady in her office that handles all of the lapband patients was banded 2 years ago. She was so reassuring. I am ready to get this done, and on to a new and better me. Actually, I just want to find the me that I lost under all this fat.

Karen, I am scared too. I am having my surgery on Halloween. I have researched the same as you and have some of the same doubts. The way I look at it is "what do I have to loose except the weight". I am trying to stay positive and pray for a good turn out after the surgery. My doctor assures me that if I follow the instructions and do my follow up that I will drop the weight. I plan to be at least 65 lbs. lighter by this time next year. I will be your friend so email me anytime you would like karlvr@yahoo.com . We can go through this together even if we are half way around the world from each other. I live a little north of Nashville, TN.

hey karlvr, thank you for your post, I wish you the very best of everything for your surgery too!! My suggestion for anyone getting banded on halloween, is to have something scary or funny written on big cotton undies, to amuse the surgical team, and give you that little he,he,he feeling!!! Tell me a bit more about yourself - I am always interested in having new friends............... hugs K

Karen, (write something across your underwhere :biggrin1: ) your killin me !!!!

That almost made me bust a stitch !!!

How About Just Writin "BOO" ;)

Good Luck Ladies ... It will be over before ya know it and you have great things to look forward to !!!!!

I am getting my first fill in 2 days, cant wait - I'll let ya know how it goes. I'll be talking to you before that... WELCOME karlvr !!!

Well, tomorrow I am working at the hospital for 1/2 day and then getting a manicure and pedicure before the big day. It has been years since I have had either one so I am quite excited. I just got home from leaving my 11 month old at my inlaws. He will be there until Friday. It was a little sad to leave him, but man is my house quiet right now. Husband's gone deer hunting, older son is spending 1 night with my inlaws. I have the house all to myself. I have been very nervous this week, but as the big day approaches I am feeling rather calm and peaceful tonight. I hope it isn't the calm before the storm. LOL I can't wait to begin this journey. I am determined and ready!!! I will post before I leave for the hospital on Wednesday and as soon as I am home and awake. Thank you all for your support. Can't wait to see everyones progress as we reach our goals. God Bless.

P.S. - Hello CT Girl .. I am a fellow New Englander .. Just outside of Boston in Medford Ma (GO RED SOX) My cousin teaches at Fairfield Academy. Best Of Luck to you as well....

I love Karen's idea - what do you think ??? Had I been going in

on Haloween, I would have done the same or maybe bought some of those Haloween undies they sell in the store (HA<HA) too funny !

okay - silly question.....what do you do with the deer after you hunt them?? do you eat them? or is it just a sport?..... always curious to know different practices......

We don't really have anything to hunt in Australia - except feral pigs (they are good for nothing, ruin pastures etc) but you can't eat them....... kangaroo's (sometimes they get to plague proportions in the country - and they don't seem so cute)...... rabbits (mainly in the southern states - these are not the cute fluffy type, and are eaten in stew etc)..... otherwise it's only flys and spiders - and we can hunt them with a can of spray!! cya K
