confused--liquids

Recommended Posts

I'm a little confused. I was banded last Friday, and I'm supposed to be on Clear liquids for a week, then mushies. The only things I know to be Clear Liquids are broth, SF Jello, and SF popsickles. Is there a difference between liquids and clear liquids? Do Protein shakes qualify as clear liquids? Is there any way I can get more Protein for strength?

I would appreciate any advice.

my dr said Protein Drinks can also be used during the 1st two weeks post op-just mix them thick with no more than 4oz of Water. I use lots of ice-goes down better that way- I am only 3 days post op and will try 2 shakes a day-mainly for energy.

okay, let me tell you what my doctor gave to me. Clear liquids: Crystal lite, sugar-free Kool-aid, Propel, diet V8 splash, decaffeinated coffee/tea,V8, Tomato juice, low sodium or regular broths, sf Jello, sf popsicles, and sf italian ice.

After 2-3 days of clear, progress to thicker, pudding, yougurt, fudgecicles, skim milk,sf hot cocoa and low fat cream Soups and 100% juice with no sugar added in addition to Protein shakes and clear liquids.

We are supposed to have 64 ozs of liquids a day. Which can include the Protein Shakes.

Now i use my Protein Shakes with skim milk. But he said after this stage, no more skim milk. Just Water.

I hope this helps you.

Mary:)

First, you need to go by what YOUR doctor told you to do. I appreciate that others have offered what their doc says, but you really need to follow your doc's advice. If that is confusing to you, please call the office and ask.

Second, clear liquid is just that, it is CLEAR, you can SEE THROUGH it. It can be colored pink or red or purple or green or yellow, but it is something you can see through. Think of it this way, if you pour a clear liquid (or melt a popsicle or jello) through a filter, there wouldn't be any particles left. You can't do that with something cloudy like Soup or milk or ice cream. Those are all full liquids.

Some docs say that Protein drinks are okay while still in the CLEAR phase, so do not, so please don't go by what others sayt their docs let them do, please ask your doc if it's okay to have Protein shakes now.

Also, the belief is that the body can't process more than about 25 grams of protein at a time, so drinking a shake with 40 or 50 grams of protein in it at once is sort of wasting good protein. Im sure there are some people who process more than 25 grams at a time, but how do you know if you do? there have been a lot of studies about protein lately and lots of new and exciting info is coming out. One thing is that whey is much better than collagen protein, so those little bullets of Protein Drink, are for the most part, crap. WasaBB is kind of our resident protein expert around these parts, do a search, the go advanced and search for posts by wasabubblebutt using the key word protein and you'll find loads of good info.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
