thinking of being banded

Recommended Posts

My name is Heather and I am 22 years old. I am 5'3'' and weigh 290 plus pounds. I have tried many diets with effects only while on the diet. I have been doing the Alli program and have lost about 25 pounds but feel like the weight is coming back. I have seriously been considering the Lap Band System for quite some time now. My daddy died in May, and left my mom with quite a bit of life insurance money. She has since, decided to help finance this surgery for me. I haven't began the journey yet as I'm trying to quit smoking. I'm tired of feeling limited on the things I can do because of my weight. I feel trapped.

Hi Heather, First let me say that I'm very sorry about the loss of your Dad. I think you are doing great and are on the right track. I too am still in the beginning stages, researching and talking with Doctors. However, I can share with you that I am 41 and my DH and I just adopted a toddler boy and the extra weight I am carrying is making it difficult to play with him (bad knees) and do alot of things that I would like to do with him. That is only one of my motivators but I mention it because I thought that I could handle being heavier and lose weight when I "had the time" Well alot of years have gone by and it's just so hard to lose now with my metabolism slower than when I was in my 20s and 30s. I think you would do great with the LapBand and I wish you all the best in your journey ahead.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. Investing in your health is the best investment. I think all of us have tried everything! The band is the best thing I've ever done!

My best to you.

I've been doing some comparing of prices, and noticed that they vary quite a bit. They off the surgery here, but it seems awfully high compared to other places I have seen. The cost is the ONLY thing I'm concerned about because I don't have any insurance. I work for Sam's Club and the insurance they off doesn't cover bariatric surgery of any form. I know I have someone to pay for it, but I don't want to over pay just because the surgery is done here. Has anyone gotten their surgery done in Texas? I'm looking for a low cost high quality place, perferably where I don't have to drive very far. I live in West Texas. Thanks!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
