I've heard the term eating around the sleeve before. I just want to make sure that I'm not doing it. One of my friends made me a special batch of beef Jerky. He made it using Stevia instead of his usual brown sugar. It is a little high in salt because he uses a quarter of a cup of salt for every gallon of Water. He sliced extremely thin and let it sit in the brine for 7 days before smoking. It was extremely good and amazingly easy to eat, because it was so easy I am concerned that I may be eating around the sleeve.

to eat around your sleeve it means that rather than your prescribed meals/snacks you are eating more often, or for a longer time to get more calories in. consuming slider foods that you can way load up on calories or drinking your calories.

which means your restriction is still in place but you are finding a way to consume too many calories.

isn't venison Jerky the best? my mom makes the very best. it is a treat she usually gives us at the holiday times. Because you can't just go get more of this any time you want, I would not worry too much about a treat, especially one that is Protein heavy.

We take long trips and lots of Jerky. Just bought a good dehydrator, got a terrific old recipe from a 90 y/o uncle in Ohio, and it has to be healthier than the processed. My husband wants to do the turkey jerky before he gets his next buck.

If you find a recipe that you like please share it. I have never had a good turkey jerky. Also when it comes to Wild Turkey I can only do the breasts and thighs. After that it just has too odd of a flavor. If I found something that I could enjoy the legs and wings as well that would be awesome.

.

Once years ago my husband came home with wild Texas turkey, saying you won't like this gamey taste. He soaked it in eggs and milk, then fried it in small pieces. It was the best thing I Have Ever eaten. We have lots of GA turkey on hand for the jerky recipe.

I am happy to use any type of venison in recipes, especially baked meatballs, meatloaf, chili. It is very low fat.

eating around the sleeve seems to refer to high calorie foods which don't give the bang for the buck you need. You can probably cram in mashed potatoes all day, but you are not going to lose weight. @@Dub figured out that nuts can be a problem (good food, too many calories). Alcohol and nuts seem to be the worse.

All that said, I use jerky's as "rescue food" which I think of is things I keep in my travel bag when I am not sure I can get enough Protein. It can be addictive, and I have to watch it, but I do dig it. It makes a stupid layover a good event, becaue I get to break out the gourmet Jerky ;-).

We drive six hours a lot to the Florida panhandle, and a few bites of Jerky keeps us satisfied. No stopping for food.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
