Mexico versus US for cash patients

Recommended Posts

When I started down this journey I went from a possible insurance patient to a definite cash patient (overall pleased to be in good health!)

However, cash for me is a $16k program fee. I know that Mexico is about half that price (give or take).

What have people's experiences been with Mexico? Pros/Cons, etc.

I went to Monterrey Mexico to Dr. Zapata and Dr. Sachez who've done over 7000 of these and more than any other doctor. They were fabulous. I loved Monterrey Mexico. It was beautiful and the staff was wonderful. The hospital was a full scaled trauma unit hospital where our President goes if he needs medical while in Mexico. The price was 8000.00 for everything. PM me if I can be of help.

Hugs,

Sherri Jo

I was considering Mexico but I found Dr. Kirshenbaum instead! The care you get in Mexico has been great for all the people I know that went there. For me, it wasn't the right choice.

Dr. K is at least half of what I would pay if I stayed in my area with self-pay.

I went to Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. Cost was $8500.00. Great experience. As to US or Mexico, think this way. Doctors in Mexico have been doing the surgery since 1991. They have done thousands where US doctors have done hundreds. Who has the most experience??

I was also planning on going to Monterrey, Mexico until I found Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado. I am being banded by him on October 16th and his fee is $9950 for everything plus 3 months follow up care.... Dr K and his staff are top notch and are very highly recommended...

There is a link to his web site below in my signature... Check him out....

Good Luck to you in your journey...

Definitely Mexico! Even if my insurance had paid I would take into consideration that they have been doing the procedure for so much longer than here. They are actually the guys teaching the US Doctors! I just don't want to be a learning experience for anyone!

There are several places in the US that are about $10,000 or so. There is a place in Cetral Missouri, Colorado. Keep in mind a lot of people are having problems with getting fills from the US Doctors. Make so you have one in place before you have this done in Mexcio.

I had surgery with Dr Kuri in Tijuana, Mexico. It was a great experience. The hospital he uses is brand new, state-of-the-art. My cost was $7500. If you'd like to learn more, you can visit his site at

I had Dr. Kuri too. That was 2 years ago, My price was higher though $8950.00 Great that he is offering it even cheaper now. I thought it was a great price compared to what I was finding back a couple of years ago. He is a great doctor and I would recommend him to anyone. I have sent a co-worker and her friend to him as well and they were very happy with their experiences as well. The other doctors he works with are very nice as well.

We have investigated many different programs. We are going with Huacuz surgical center in mexico. Dr. Huacuz is certified in the US and Mexico, I have talked with many of his patients. He has also called us personally to discuss the procedure. I really liked how they have everything arranged from picking us up at home the day of the surgery to our meds, our return and our fills with a dr. close by. you can find out more about him at huacuz.com - the cost is less than half of the US price for the entire package I just described.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
