Waiting for weightloss

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone else has had issues with losing the weight pre-op. My doctor requires 2 weeks of liver shrinking yummy goodness and I am one week down. Every post I see says different numbers, but the average seems to be around 10 lbs in week. I'm stuck at 4 and while I know this is a marathon not a sprint it's just making me nervous about post op. I am following the diet to a tee. I eat around 750 calories a day and and an average of 30 carbs. I drink 96oz of Fluid and have enough Protein for an NFL line backer. Is anyone else out there feeling frustrated? And if you were like this preop how did it go after the sleeve?? Thanks in advance.

I only lost 6 pounds total on my 2 week preop diet. I didn't let it worry me. I am also a PCOS patient.

I think you may be unconsciously cherry-picking the numbers you look at, or maybe more people who lost a lot of weight pre-op are feeling braggy and post their numbers. 10 lbs in a week is not normal or average in any part of the process, either pre-op or post-op, so don't set yourself up for failure with that comparison. 4 lbs in a week is awesome and you should be proud of yourself and happy.

It depends on each persons body type and size (Fluid retention can also play a significant role). I wouldn't compare your results to others, but 4 pounds in one week is a lot. I'm pre op, so certainly don't have the experience of the pre op diet yet, but know it will be coming. Your doing great and congratulations, your almost to the post op side!

Also if you had a 3 or 6 month diet for insurance some of your "easy" or Water weight would likely already be gone. 6 weeks in I'm learning the weight does not roll off super fast but has been pretty steady.

Thank all of y'all i think I might be a little more emotional without chewing or calories lol. I know I can do it and I just have to keep my eye on the prize.

I am waiting for insurance approval, didn't have to do an extended diet and my pre-op diet will only be 3 days of liquids. Every surgeon is different.

I don't expect to lose anything in those 3 days. One of the reasons I want WLS is because I am such a slow loser I can't stay on any diet long enough to lose weight.

I have tried Weight Watchers, Slim-fast, Medifast, you name it. I starve all week and maybe lose a pound, two if I am lucky. After a couple of weeks I get discouraged and give up. I am not one of those who has lost and regained hundreds of pounds.

There are a lot of factors, people with more to lose will lose faster in the beginning. Younger people often lose faster (I know I did when I was younger, I am almost 54 now)

I feel your pain but throughout this process I know I am not going to be able to compare myself with anyone. We are each unique in this journey.

Well said! I'm on the pre-op diet and this is my second week and I've lost 2kg (4.4pounds) so far. We ate the same ????

Good luck!

I am not at that point yet, but my surgeon said the goal of the pre-op diet was to shrink the liver and lose "around 5 lbs".

I was told by my Bariatric Center that "most" lose 9-15 lbs in the 2 week liver-shrinking pre-op liquid diet required by my surgeon. I did not cheat one bit. I lost 9. So there you go. Sounds like on the the same track as your 4.4 lbs for Week 1. Hang in there! Week 2 was easier for me to do, except for the terrible Constipation from all the protein! Be sure to add Benefiber Clear to your shakes or chew Fiber gummies.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
