Lap band port pain

Recommended Posts

My lap band port pain is increasing daily as I jump through the insurance hoops to get approved for revision to sleeve. But I have my EGD tomorrow and nutritionist visit on Weds., then I'm done. Is anyone else going through this?

i was banded 5 years ago and i'm about to start the process to get a revision to a sleeve. I have always had intermittent pain like a burning at my port site. I plan on asking my surgeon what this could be.. please keep me posted if you find out before me.

I had severe port pain when I had the Lap Band. When I would complain, the surgeon would always tell me that the Lap Band was on the other side and that the port shouldn't hurt. As soon as I revised to sleeve, the pain immediately subsided. I'm just glad that I had the revision!! Good luck on getting approved. Don't give up!!

My EGD was a breeze and my nutritionist session was informative. I see my surgeon in a week for the followup appt., and then we submit to insurance. The really weird thing is that I swear my stomach/port pain is gone since I had the EGD. If anyone with a medical background has any idea of what happened, let me know!

Before my revision I noticed that my port pain was directly affected by what I wore. If I wore jeans my port would be sore the next day. Usually while driving I would unzip my jeans. If I had port pain I would wear stretch pants, sweats or a dress. Now all of that is a distant memory. So happy with my new sleeve. No more slimming, getting stuck or port pain!

I'm also going through the hoops to get revised to a sleeve. I've been having issues with my band since last year and started the process a few months ago. I've had all of my meetings, but am waiting for the weight center to send approval to the surgeon.

I'm getting tired of waiting. In the meantime, I've been having pain and pressure when I swallow.

Need this stupid thing out!

The pain may be from scar tissue. Remember, the port is a foreign object in the body and while the body doesn't reject it, it still thinks it needs to protect itself from the "intruder". I used to get pain around/near my port every once in a while.

When I had my lap band, the area was a little tender all the time, but not too bad. The last few years I started having serious muscle pulls at the site, perhaps due to scar tissue building up through the 9 years I had it. I'm not sure. I found a sip or two of pickle juice helped the spasms (as it does for my exercise related muscle pulls).

They will find out a lot about your band/stomach/esophagus by your EGD. It's pretty painless since they just put you to sleep, and I like that I got to keep my pants on the entire time :P.

I did have a sore throat for 2 weeks after, but only because I was one of the rare cases that my throat fought the endoscope the entire time. Bleh. Also, I had bad acid reflux for a couple of weeks after as well, but that went away eventually by taking an otc antacid.

Went through the EGD recently. The worst part of it for me was sitting in the lounge by all the free muffins, donuts with an empty stomach for 3 hours while waiting to be called in.

I had my followup appt w surgeon yesterday. EGD showed chronic gastritis. They unfilled my band (yay), which hurt because of port area pain. The nurse was surprised that my port was located at the waistband area. The insurance paperwork gets submitted today or tomorrow. The surgeon doesn't expect them to deny band removal, and said if they deny the revision, he will still do it for a small fee ($500?) to cover use of stapling equipment. So I'm expecting to have surgery in 3-4 weeks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
