Hi Amber,

I was a potential canidate for open RNY due to having complications of an embilical hernia and a hiatal hernia. But my doctor was able to fix and seal off both hernias and the modified RNY which she created a pouch for my stomach since it was severly damaged an perferated while in my chest cavity. Also while in the hospital a mri and chest xray indicated a collapsed lung and 450cc of Fluid was pulled off the plura. But that was done about 1 week after the RNY.

I had my initial surgery October 28, 2015 and as of today have lost 145lbs from 285 and have only 15-20 lbs left before my anniversary date. But I have relyed on my doctors office and their experience before any new activity or new food group. I still watch my carbs like a hawk and try really hard to keep 50g of Protein and 45 oz of Fluid daily.

My last appointment with my surgeon we had spoke about him attempting laprascopic and placing biomesh over very large hernias and removing mesh that is causing issues from previous hernia surgery but now that my surgery is scheduled he is having me watch videos pertaining to open gastric bypass and I dont have an appointment with him for 2 more weeks to find out what is going on lol

Yeah I watched the same videos just incase the laprascopic surgical proceedure would not work. According to my surgeon she stated that less than 1% of her patients needed surgery done that way. But to be aware that once she got in there it may be possible that open would be the way it would have to be done. Luckily My upper hernia was repairable by stitching the membrane in my diaphram without use of mesh. And the embilical hernia was repaired due to being a very small hole and she removed most of the exterior bulging intestine. My third hernia which was directly below one of the surgical sites under my left rib came out after lifting more than the 5 lb limit 2 days before my weight amount would have been increased. She stated we would have had to repair it anyways and she also did a few adjustments to my muscle core and stitched together some tears which happen after long term weightgain. I suggest since you have been through the mesh before ask if you can wear a binder to support your core after surgery because it helped me immensly. I couldnt even sit up for weeks after the surgery and was placed on tube feeding directly to the lower intestine for 3 months, Nothing even Ice chips for that time. But I had leaked into my abdominal cavity and created 10 additional surgical proceedures so I was pretty sore for awhile.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
