Had sleeve and hernia surgery on Tuesday. had to stay in hospital an extra day because I couldn't swallow without being in huge pain. Still very painful when have to swallow anything. It takes me 1 hour to get one pill down. I have sharp pain whenever I swallow I little piece.

Is this all normal?

I'm a little scared.

Thanks

Yes it is completely normal. I was a band to sleeve revision so I had a lot of extra inflammation making it hard to swallow. I was in the hospital for 5 days because it hurt so much. The doc just had me take it real slow with the liquids. I'm on liquid stage 2 and I'm still having a hard time with cheese and hot Cereal. You just have to be patient because of the extra inflammation. Plus, you had a hernia repaired which takes longer to heal. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thank you for the reassurance, I think ill be needing a lot of it. I have a bit of anxiety and of course everything about this is anxiety ridden for me. I hope you feel better soon.

I had my surgery the same day as you. I also had trouble swallowing until today, when it miraculously passed. sugar free ice pops were a godsend, allowing me to get Fluid in. Warm chicken broth also helped. Today is so much better - i hope tomorrow will be for you, too.

I was sleeved on Tuesday too and I also had a hiatus hernia repair. Are you well medicated for pain and nausea? I'm taking all the meds and I'm feeling fine. It's possible I could stop some of them but it is more important to be comfortable, rested and hydrated than anything else right now. If what you've been prescribed isn't working for you then get in touch with your surgical team and ask them to change the meds to something else, not all medicines work for everyone. I hope you feel better soon!

I have Tylenol with codine, but the thought of swallowing it makes me want to cry.

I have no nausea just pain swallowing. The pain isn't immediate it is after it goes down a bit.

I am glad you are feeling better.

Can't u crush the pills. Don't waste your money on liquid codeine. They sent me home with a huge bottle. It was cheer Syrup and disgusting I couldn't take one sip and threw it all down the sink.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
