Nausea 30 days post-op

Recommended Posts

Anyone have nausea everyday this long after their surgery? I pretty much wake up in the morning with nausea and on all day long. I am taking promethazine for it, and it does help some. I also cannot keep down Protein Drinks, so I'm wondering if this is part of the problem. I am getting some Protein with the meat I eat, however, I can only take about three or four bites during my meals and then I'm done. Most people seem to be eating more than this 30 days out. My doctor just shrugs it off as "everyone is different." But I'm worried about not getting enough protein or food. Anybody else having this problem?

I stayed away from red meat for 8 weeks, and even at 10 weeks I had dumping after beef mince.

I only ate chicken mince and poached salmon, plus Chobani yoghurt with Protein powder.

My nausea was intermittent, mainly after heavier to digest foods, or if I ate wrong foods, such as baked goods or chocolate. So, I don't touch that stuff anymore. I am 5 months post op, and I am still scared to eat beef.

Later on I experimented with lamb mince and veal mince, with plenty of sauce, and I was OK.

Can you tolerate yoghurt with Protein Powder? Can you tolerate minced chicken and poached fish, with some cheese sauce in them, to make them moist?

Do you see a NUT? They can help with food adjustments.

I became moderately lactose intolerant post op, so I switched to lactose free milk.

Yoghurt, cream and cottage cheese are OK with me.

Good luck, I hope your nausea goes away soon.

Thank you. I will try putting the Protein into my yogurt and see how that goes. I'm not really eating too much meat yet because I'm really just starting solids. Last week I was eating soft solids like tuna fish and canned chicken. I also don't understand why I can only eat 2 to 3 bites of food before I start having pains and feel like I'm full. And by bites I means half of a baby spoon size bites.

@@kaytopaz Try a different Protein shake. Maybe one of the non-milky ones (Isopure, Atkins Lift, etc). It's difficult at 30 days post-op to get enough Protein without supplementing. Add Protein Powder to your drinks or food. I don't know if that's why you have nausea though. I am pre-op but had a GI bug 2 weeks ago - my stomach still isn't right. I have been nauseous daily. I started a new Vitamin and think that may be causing the problem.

It may be too early for tuna or chicken - it can be very dry. Try adding mayo or plain yogurt. Try refried Beans with cheese, cottage cheese, etc. 2-3 bites of tuna or chicken is not unusual. You should be able to eat more if pureed.

Not sure when in July you had your op, early or late July.

In my opinion you are still healing from this major surgery, hence not being able to eat much due to the post op swelling.

Do you have a NUT? Can you talk with them, especially since your surgeon seems dismissive about your challenges.

Good luck and heal up well!

Pre op I was taking a strong Multivitamin with no problems.

Post op for the first 3 months I was taking chewable BN Multi plus B12 spray.

A month or so ago, I went back to my regular Multivitamin, and now it is often making me nauseous. I have to cut it in half now, and take it morning and evening.

The baby stomach still can't handle certain foods or supplements ....

Could be you need a gentler multivitamin for your stomach.

Yes, the bariatric BN Multi were great.

Now, with my regular multi-vit, if I cut it in half, and take it twice a day, I am fine. Just can't take the whole one yet, even 5 months post op.

I had my sleeve on the 27th July. I'm supposed to be on soft puréed food but I'm much the same as you . Heavier foods like meats and veg have made me vomit. I also get a very uncomfortable feeling and nausea. Eating very slowly helps but this is difficult wen we are liturally starving . The nausea is caused by a very empty stomach full of salvia and wind.

I've now found out by trial and error its best not to wait for mealtimes.

Long periods without food make it nearly impossible to be able to eat enough because your stomach is full of salvia and wind.

I snack constantly throughout the day on things like almonds, half a very small banana, tiny pots of favoured fromage frais. You might be surprised but I also find one ryvita crisp-bread with soft cheese or pate on is ok too. And keep sipping on Water all day you may also be dehydrated. We should be aiming at 1.700 quarts a day , I still can't manage this yet but I keep trying... One more thing sucking on mints helps with the wind and nausea...

Hope you start to feel betta soon xox

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
