I am 3 weeks too.

Sources of Protein and basically my diet right now ( they are all liquid/pureed Protein for the most part right now, still the easiest to get in the most protein if liquid form):

shakes. I do powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury brand chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla (blend with ice, milk, some banana) and the Premier Protein.

Unjury Unflavored protein (mix this into avocado, sugar free pudding etc.)

Unjury chicken Soup (If I get tired of the taste, I mix in a little Tomato or potato cream Soups, just a bit changes the flavor)

Greek Yogurts (Dannon light & fit)

Cottage cheese

Avocados

Scrambled eggs

I know one thing my nutrionist stressed about the high protein diet, is that it helps protect your muscle too, so you don't lose muscle, which isn't good. High protein diet protects the muscle and burns off fat cells. At least that is how I understood it.

Are there any good books on this topic? I'd really like to understand better particularly given my plan has lower Protein recommendations. Surely my dietitian knows her stuff....at least I hope

There's alot of info available online. Not all Programs follow the same diet but most I have seen in the US suggest high Protein.

Omg...MarieLouise- I can so relate. I had my surgery on 7/18 and I am having the same exact issue. I loved Premier Protein while on my preop diet but now I can't finish an entire one. At this point in just trying to get in my fluids more so then the Protein but that's not easy either . It will get easier with time

I tried the premier Protein on my preop diet and hated them. They have a terrible chemical aftertaste for me. So my nut suggested core power Protein drinks instead. I love them and they aren't to thick so I am drinking them after surgery now with no issues getting in the Protein that way. I'm still on liquids till next week. I hope something works out for you!

Sorry about your Protein issues everyone has given great advice. I was not advised to hit Protein goals so soon but to work up toward them. However it was recommended for me to get at least 40g for the first month.

I know what you mean about the premier. I love them but they sometimes make me a little nauseated. Typically you can take a little break and come back to them and you can begin to tolerate them again. Perfect time to explore other options. I've gotten a little sick of them but Id purchased 4 cases so I felt obligated to finish them. I found that mixing in a frozen banana with the chocolate ones are amazing. Thicker, and very tasty. I've also tried frozen peaches, and strawberries with the vanilla and strawberry flavors respectively.

You may have to find a way to incorporate greek yogurt three times a day, and try breaking your Protein shakes up into 4oz servings. Maybe you can tolerate them better that way.

Also if you like spinach, kale and fruit smoothies, you could make smoothies with greek yogurt and add a scoop of protein for an added boost. I was doing this at post op week 3. If all else fails talk to your NUT.

I imagine as your diet advances, so will your protein intake.

People have given great advice, just one thing I would add.

Try a lactaid or two with your Protein drink. (As long as you are drinking whey protein.)

You can chew them. I keep it in my mouth and let it dissolve while I drink my shake. I personally take about 4 to 6 of them with one shake. It made a world of difference.

I have always liked the chocolate Premier Protein shakes but shortly after surgery my body didn't! Someone on the boards recommend lactaid and bam I was back in business.

Hope this helps and good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
