I believe you'd have to be compliant on the CPAP machine for 30 days - but it might depend on your surgeon.

I didn't have to wait. I just had to bring my tubing and mask to the hospital.

@@TammyMMD The time it takes to get qualified for surgery all depends on your insurance plan. Some plans require a 6 month medically supervised nutrition program....some require 3 months, and some require none.....

You will get the most accurate information by contacting your insurance company and requesting a copy of the requirements for weight loss surgery. Each plan is different so you don't want to go by what others say. You don't want to be surprised in the end. It's best to get all the requirements upfront so you know what to expect.

I know I don't have to wait for my insurance I just need a history of weight but I was just wondering if diagnosed with sleep apnea how long did others have to wait

I never got a cpap machine as I hope surgery will take care of my sleep apnea (I was diagnosed with it, but its a mild case)

I was told the same as trekker954. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and not given a machine. The doctor said that if I lose weight the apnea will go away.

I have had sleep apnea for over 10+yrs but had to do another sleep study to say I still have it but got a nice new machine out of it. Had to be on new cpap machine for 30 days only to have insurance pay for it.

I was diagnosed in November and didn't get my machine until March. Had surgery in May.

My sleep apnea went away very fast. Approx 1 month post op and 30 lb (10%) weight loss.

I don't even snore anymore (much joy for my family)
