Hi all. I am in my final phase prior to insurance approval for VSG in August. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20s.

I had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis and adenomyosis in 2009 at age 34 , then my left ovary removed in 2012.

They left what I consider a "garbage" ovary. It's temperamental and cystic bit seems to work well enough that I don't have to take hormones.

Would likes to hear more from those who have had hysterectomy or oopherectomy (ovary removal) and their experience losing weight with VSG.

@@vamping I have almost the same story as you. I suffered from PCOS since I was 18 and had horrible bleeding issues to the point where it would never stop. Finally the doctor agreed to do a hysterectomy after all of the other options (hormones, tubal ligation, etc) have failed. He said due to my age, 28 at the time, that I needed to keep my ovaries. Well now I have horrible pain that I can feel in that area and my doctor says it is probably my PCOS or it could be endometriosis. He says losing weight will definitely help the PCOS symptoms and that I should talk over the options with a bariatric surgeon. Well through constant research on this site and other sites I have decided to go forward. Unfortunately, I am in the waiting stages until August 21 until I meet the surgeon. Sorry for the long post but it's nice to know that I am not alone.

Would love to hear other people's opinions on how VSG worked with the PCOS symptoms.

@@tgpez21, I am so sorry to hear of your problems. I had some terrible complications due to a surgical error, but I still don't regret the hysterectomy one bit.

I too am hoping the sleeve surgery will help not only my weight, but some of the other PCOS symtpoms like the dark skin folds and insulin resistance.

I am going to what should be one of my last appointments tomorrow and hoping for a date in mid-August.

Just found this group. I had uterus removed prior to sleeve surgery (ovaries intact). I am in mid 50's and did well with sleeve surgery, but lost focus and had about 40 lbs. re-gain. It definitely improved my blood pressure. I am struggling with losing the re-gain .... I am on doctor supervised liquid diet & not having the success that the other re-gainers in my support group are having. I'm chalking it up to PCOS metabolism. I see the dietician in a couple weeks & hope to get some additional help/advice.

Bariatrics can be a good option for those with PCOS. A diet y'all may not have tried is a very low carb- ketogenic. Basically it is high fat, moderate protein, and 20g or less net carbs. It helps with insulin resistance. Can be undertaken with or without surgery.
