Hashimotos Thyroid disease and bypass

Recommended Posts

I have hashimoto's Thyroid disease! I cannot tell you how I debated so many times to NOT have the gastric bypass surgery! It took me 4 years.. My first referral for the surgery was in 2012 at Ft. Irwin, CA. My health decreased so much from 2012-2014 I went from having one bad day a month to having only ONE good day a month. What I mean by that is able to get out of bed and function. Not sleep 12-18 hours a day! YES a day!!!

When I finally had bypass surgery April 6, 2016, I didn't know it would change my life. I wasn't expecting it to help my Hashimotos or me be able to function normal again and NOT sleep so much! Out of everything this surgery gave me my life back! I now sleep like a normal person does, I'm NOT tired anymore! I get ALOT of stuff done in my days now that before I couldn't. I'm more than thankful I finally did the bypass surgery, if I had know this before I would have done it in 2012!

I suffer with Hashimotos and have been wondering if the sleeve surgery will have any positive effects on the sleepiness and fatigue. My surgery is scheduled for next Monday July 25th. Thank you for sharing this!!!

Wow you and I could be the same person...my name is even Wendy. Same issues right after my second child and just getting worse. Thyroid was my initial symptom, now hbp, and extreme fatigue. I've started my journey and hope to have surgery in October.

So glad to read about the above success with Hashi's. I've waited 3 years to get to my surgery next Thursday.

I'm hoping this will provide me with the results I've been working towards. I can lose inches, but the number is so HARD to get down, even on pre-op.

Did any of you have difficulty losing weight prior to surgery, even on your pre-op?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
