Gastric Sleeve 1 Week (4 Days Post Op)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, first off.... im a bit discouraged and frustrated. I see everyone having success within days of surgery already losing 5-10 pounds... Im a man, went into surgery 4 days ago weighing 428.8 pounds. As of today i weigh 430.4 pounds. I dont have an appetite, can barely get much liquids down i consume under 500 calories a day. I drink a 100 calorie 11 oz prorein shake everyday, i break it down in 3 seperate meals because my stomach is so tight and i cant get much liquids down. I am very bloated my stomach feels HEAVY having alot of gas and i cant poop because whenever i strain on the toilet my stomach begins to hurt.... (sorry if thats too much info) Im 21 years of age 6'1 inches tall and trying to figure out why im not having the same sucess everyone else is having. Im following my book. Not eating anything thats prohibited and i dont have cravings or even an appetite. Please help...

I haven't had surgery yet, but I have had surgeries before, and I know that your body is healing right now and is probably retaining from all the fluids they put in you in order to have the surgery. Maybe try and stay off the scale and just focus on trying to get those fluids down - I have heard from the boards that sometimes warm liquids are easier on a new sleeve than cold - just a thought. Good luck!

Don't get discouraged, you have to remember you have been receiving IV fluids during your hospital stay that could cause some gain. Plus you had major surgery and your activity level has declined significantly. Just take it easy and slow. I am 11 days out and each day gets a little better. Still not near my Protein goal but as long as you strive to make the next day better than the one before...you will be on the right track.

I mean this in the kindest way possible.

Stay off the scale!

Your primary job right now is healing from major surgery. That means pushing liquids and Protein, resting, and doing some walking.

The sooner you can reach your Protein and Fluid targets the better you will feel.

Sip, sip, sip.

I HIGHLY recommend only weighing at your doctors appointments for the first few months.

About three weeks after surgery you are going to hit a stall. It will happen.

Embrace the Stall

I went up just after surgery. Don't worry, it'll come off quickly if you follow your plan. Relax and take care of yourself.

I totally feel you!! I weighed 303 the day before surgery and although I had a few complications and had to be in ICU for 3 days and a regular room 1 night.....I weighed 314 on day 3!!!! I was like are you serious? I made the nurse do it again. She said it's all the fluids they force into your body. Just take a deep breath and it will come off I promise. The gas pains are unbelievable!! I screamed so loud at one point but you gotta walk walk walk. What helped me was sitting in a chair and sorta lean forward.....then when I felt it I would just raise up with the arms of the chair in the hunched over position. But everyone is different. As far as your poop goes. Your first BM should be so soft you barely need to push. I didn't have a BM until 4 days later. You're only getting liquids so it's not going to be no where near solid. Hang in there!!

I second what @@Inner Surfer Girl said! Stay off the scale, walk, and sip! Just keep on keeping on and you will feel better, and you will lose weight.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
