Have a date - Ready to talk

Recommended Posts

I just received a date for my VSG surgery. It's August 9th. This is the first post I have put out there and I am excited to finally share the news.

Over the past few months I have been lurking on these forums as well as other sites. Doctors visits and getting clearance from specialists have created many stress filled days but all is good.

My issues include type 1 diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol as well as other stuff I cannot think of right now. Reading all of the posts on this site has really allowed me to sit back and think about how I really feel about all of this. I am glad I did not just jump right in like I have a tendency to. I took my time and it has been good for my brain.

My doctor and I decided that it would be more dangerous for NOT to have the surgery at this point. I am excited and hope to connect with people on here for support. And hopefully I will able to provide some support to others also.

-George

Congratulations, George! It's definitely not something to just jump right into, because it's permanent. I, myself, took 5 months before actually taking the plunge. Albeit, some of that was my insurance jerking me around, but it gave me time to really wrap my head around it. August 9th isn't that far!

Congrats! I am looking at a late July/early August date myself, hoping to get my date soon! Good luck on your journey!

Congrats George! I really need to hear from more people and how they feel about the surgery. The place recommended to me seems a much higher price than others, but I would feel nervous if the price is too little and what that means. Anyway, my doctor will likely have a lot to say when i finally speak with her! She may want me to wait to have it done in Canada if I'm determined, but the wait list is long here, albeit free.

Look forward to hearing how things go for you!

Congrats, I remember breaking down into tears when I got my date...and I was always the stoic type. LOL Life post-op can be tough for the first while, but it passes, and become the 'new normal'. I love my life now, and like you, I've been given an opportunity to extend it into old age! Take each day as it comes, and keep coming here...it helps!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
