Pittsburgh or near Pgh sleevers...?

Yeah, I found a surgeon in Akron. His office has already sent me paperwork, which I sent back today.

The surgery worked...I was down over 100 pounds...but then had some huge changes in my life. Divorce, moved out of state, etc... Slowly I started putting the weight back on. Emotional eating, overeating, and not rating the right things. Now I have a great support structure and hope I can get back at it.

I'd like that! I'm looking forward to having more support this time through. In 2012 I was in a miserable relationship so I just hid in the gym all the time. Sort of made it easy to lose weight. But being out and enjoying my new life has made it so hard. Plus, being away from my family was killing me inside. I wonder what the divorce rate is among bariatric patients?

I'm getting very close and more nervous ! At the hospital they have monthly support groups but since I live almost an hour away I haven't gone to any. I would love to meet up with people who are on the same journey as I am .

What area are you in? I had my sleeve done at UPMC Horizon in Greenville PA back in 2012.

I have read some interesting articles on relationships and how they are impacted by wls. I am trying to get my significant other to understand how huge of a life change this... he's trying

Going through a divorce is tough enough but adding wls to the mix sounds pretty challenging!

I am feeling pretty anxious about the surgery. Not about the actual operation. I am thinking more about loss of my relationship with myself and food. I have been in therapy for quite some time so I have tools and I know my triggers but I'm human so I still struggle. I just hope I can maintain getting back on track when I have moments of struggle. I also can't even imagine being in a body that can actually function better and look smaller. I've had a weight problem since elementary school. So I'm excited but I know I've got work ahead ????????????

I've had weight problems and food issues all my life. I'm a chef....used to own a Bakery....my bf says I obsess about food. Therapy is one of the things I have requested through this round. I didn't have any the last time. They didn't even have a support group for wls patients in my area. I love that I found this site....finding lots of great info...and great people. I had no issues with my sleeve surgery. My Dr laughed at me because I refused pain meds stronger than Tylenol and I insisted on sleeping on my belly in the hospital! LOL....it's the only way I can sleep. The pain, for me, was along the lines of labor pain. I was able to breathe through it. Plus getting up and walking a LOT after surgery helped me pass the fluids and air in my belly....which reduces pain. My roommate in the hospital refused to get out of bed....said her pain was horrible.

I love to cook! I'm certainly not a chef but I think of how I will miss cooking large meals for myself and others. Trying to stay positive and think of my new way of life and cooking. I obsess about food too. The eating disorder brain can definitely drive me crazy! My PCP started me on vyvanse a few months ago. Not sure if you know about it but it has been a great tool. It's not a weight loss drug it is actually ADHD med and now it's approved for binge eating disorder and primary role is to decrease obsessive thoughts of food as well suppress cravings/appetite. It has helped me a great deal and I notice myself being more motivated than I typically would be as I struggle with depression symptoms. I am actually a therapist so I am a strong supporter of the benefits therapy can have. I don't specialize in Eating Disorders lol.

I'm near the 'Burgh and had my surgery on June 13th. I'm happy to say that while I had some fears about the surgery, the recovery process has gone a lot smoother than I expected. I go for my one month follow-up appointment next week and I'm looking forward to seeing what the scale says. I know that I'm fitting into my clothes better and that's motivating!

My hospital offers a monthly support group that I will try later this month. Each month focuses on a different topic led by the NUT, exercise physiologist, or another member of the Bariatric team. I'm not sure how well-attended the meetings are. There is also a fairly local OA group, but I think it meets when I work.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
