9 weeks Post sleeve feeling frustrated

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on April 13, 2016. My starting weight was 283 pounds. I do not know what I weighed before going into surgery. Today, I weigh 245 pounds. I was losing weight pretty steadily until about 2.5 weeks ago. I have not lost any weight in the past 2.5 weeks. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. I am exercising (not every day but every other for 30 minutes) My Dr told me once before that he felt I was not getting in enough calories. I am wondering if that could still be the problem. I downloaded my fitness pal app today on my phone to keep track of my caloric intake. Today, I have only taken in about 200 calories and it is 3pm here. Can anyone give me any tips, tricks or advice that might help get the scale moving again? Thanks in advance.

Mary

That is not enough calories!!! Your body won't lose consistently regardless but 200 calories will put it in starvation mode and mess up your metabolism. You should try and eat 5-6 small meals with 3 hours in between. Protein first. Supplement with Protein Shakes if necessary! You have done well with your weight loss but that few calories and I'm sure too few protein is extremely bad for you.

I have alarms set on my phone to eat.

For example my alarms are set for 9,12, 3, 6 & 8:30

I eat Breakfast at 9 then at 12 I eat a snack (usually a cheese stick) then at 3 I eat lunch. then at 6 I eat dinner and at 8:30 I eat a snack. Maybe I need to pick different foods. I am so use to trying to watch what I eat maybe I need to eat different foods to get in the needed calories. My usual Breakfast is a half a serving of oatmeal with 1 scoop of unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder added. Then snack is usually a 100 calorie greek yogurt or RF cheese stick. lunch I usually eat cottage cheese about 1/2 cup (either low-fat or fat-free) then dinner is usually 1-2 oz of Protein and 1/4 cup of vegetable and 1/4 cup of brown rice or protein plus Pasta. (Sometimes I can't eat all of my dinner but make sure to eat all the protein) Then my snack before bed is usually a cheese stick or 100 calorie greek yogurt. So maybe I need to change my lunch meal to contain more food?

Thanks for responding

Mary

That doesn't seem like it's too bad. Are you sure that's only 200 calories? Try changing things up a bit - instead of oatmeal maybe have an egg or instead of brown rice or Pasta - have 2-4 oz of protein. I'm actually not allowed pasta or rice on my plan. Track an entire day and see how many calories, protein grams, carbs you are getting. Also - make sure you are drinking tons of Water (no-cal drinks). 38lbs in 9 weeks certainly isn't bad - so don't be too hard on yourself!

hi. Sounds good to me. I had surgery on March 22, and have lost 48 lbs. I have hit what is calles a "Stall" several times a couple times for a couple weeks or more. I think Protein is the key though. I often don't think I am getting enough Protein. but it sounds like you are getting it in your proteim powders which I think I will do more of. Thank you for those wise words. We can all learn from one another. Hang in there.

KristenLe,

I downloaded my fitness pal yesterday and started keeping track of my intake yesterday. (yesterday what I had eaten up to the point of my post was 200 calories) Today, just my oatmeal is 230 calories. I think this new app is going to help me a lot to make sure I get in enough. Yesterday I took in 557 calories. Yesterday was not a typical day for me though. So, I am waiting to see what the next couple of days look like. Thanks for your responses. I sometimes feel so alone on this journey

I am also stalled at 8-9 weeks! I started at 350 and am now 291. 59 lbs is a great weight loss but I can't stand that i haven't lost for a couple weeks. I eat my Protein very day. I don't pay attention to much else but I understand the frustration even though I've had a great loss so far. Let's not give up.

Hang in there! We have all had these issues and doubts. Sometimes it takes awhile to work the kinks out. I would talk to your nutritionist about the Protein carb fat breakdown. Maybe focus on Proteins a bit more? Good luck!

I always eat my Protein first and foremost and I rarely finish my whole meal. Although my food guideline given to me says for Lunch/ dinner 2-3 oz Protein, 1/4 cup vegetables nd 1/4 cup Pasta or brown rice. I rarely eat all of that I don't think I ever have. I always eat all the protein first, then the vegetables, and then go for the grains if I still feel I can eat without being over full. But, I rarely finish my vegetable and make it to the grain,so although I put it on my plate I rarely if ever get that far. I am making sure to get my protein in which my surgeon told me to aim for 60 grams daily. Thank you all for your responses. I have been "playing wii fit" for exercise because it is fun and I enjoy it. I show I am now down to 243, so I must have just stalled. I enjoy the wii fit and I aim for more time each day. If I am not playing that I use the app C25K on my treadmill. Only I don't jog/run I just increase my speed by about .5 mph for that time. I enjoy that app as well. I usually will watch a television program while doing that and it seems to make that 30 minutes go by pretty quickly I am hoping to get a gym membership somewhere to work on strength training to hopefully tone

I stalled at the same point too. After 3 weeks frustration, I ditched the carbs, upped the fat, and ignored the calorie counting. Stall broke in two days and I dropped 7 more pounds over the following week or so. Imo, carbs are pure evil and fat makes for awesome fat burning fuel!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
