Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is tomorrow. I check in at 5:30 a.m. for 7:30 a.m. surgery time. Trying not to panic and instead focus on why I made the decision to do this. I'm half packed for the hospital, and am looking forward to my 80 min massage tonight at 7:30!! Then going home, taking a shower, finishing the packing, and going to bed. Tomorrow starts a new life, right?

OMG...OMG.......

You are going to do great and smart to get that massage in tonight. Remember what your surgeon told you - walk, sip and sit up. IV will make you pee a lot so every time you get up to pee walk, then pee again before you get back in bed as then they will be taking vitals. You will have to get your rest when you can. Can't wait to welcome you back here with all your good news. Don't forget we want to hear everything! ;) Kick butt tomorrow. xo

I had my surgery on June 21. First postop day was rough. I was nauseous and nothing sat right. I basically drank Water for the first couple of days. Everything tasted terrible those first days home. My tongue was coated with gunk--ugh--and I think that contributed. Pain was tough at first but now mostly just twinges. My biggest battle is trying to get all my pills down. I have to crush them based on dr instructions and I take a few things. That has been a real challenge. Overall though my energy is better and I can eat a bigger variety of things than before--broth is acceptable again lol, plus teas, Water, and I actually don't mind the Protein Shakes. They always make my stomach feel full and almost soothed. Trying to get all my walking in each day. I think I am down about 20 pounds total but my scale is a real pain and keeps giving me different numbers (like get on it three times in a row and come up with weights with differences of five pounds or more...ridiculous). Good luck to those just starting!

Hi Magoos mom! We might have to start a thread for 21 June sleeve patients! I only take a few small pills, so that's not been as hard for me as it is for you. I'm using melts for my Vitamins to avoid those big old pills! I'm envious about you and the Protein shakes...they're just not sitting well in my stomach at all. broth and water are my favorites, I'm going to add some unflavored Protein to my broth tonight and see if it's still as palatable. I can't even describe how much I would love some fresh fruit or vegetables right now!

I weighed myself the day I came home (post-op day 2) and I'd lost 10 pounds, I've deliberately stayed off the scale since then. I'm a Weight Watchers veteran many times over and I know what that scale does to my head! I figure I'm swollen, gassy and I'll wait another week before I climb on it. Good for you for walking! The days I was on narcotics for the surgical pain were so fantastic for me, I normally have pretty significant knee pain when I exercise and the morphine and codeine completely got rid of it, so I was walking a LOT. Now I'm pretty much off meds and the pain is coming back, and I can't take my NSAIDs yet. I'm toughing it out but it was a lot more fun pain-free :) I can't wait to go for my post-op appt on 6 July...I'm hoping I'll get released to soft foods and can start on my Celebrex again. There will be no stopping me then :)

Correction according to mfp, 850 cal

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How did you get that many calories in? I need to up mine.

I feel like I've eaten a lot today and I'm just at 400 calories...I'd love to get 850 in, I think I need more calories to heal well. How did you do it?

2 Protein Shakes, and a Protein fruit shake from boathouse farms. The mango one. It's 400 cal and 30g of protein.

Oh, that sounds good, but it's way to many grams of sugar for my dietician's guidelines. I'm going to try oatmeal tomorrow, though, that may help me get some extra calories in :)

I'm not diabetic, so it works out.

Oh, I'm not diabetic either...I think it's funny how different all of our nutritionists/dietitians/surgeons structure their programs. And they all seem to work great and get most of us to our goal weights! I'm just too worried about my own ability to control myself to veer too far from the guidelines I've been given. Yet :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
