I think the worry is that you may get sick (vomiting) and cause complications. I would call and see what surgeon recommends - they may be ok with progressing to pureed.

I guess that makes sense. I did eat a tiny amount of cheese and chewed very well. Seemed fine

it's best to follow your doctor's rules. They are there for a reason. Your stomach was just cut and stapled, don't rush the healing

My post op is 2 weeks liquid. shakes and clear liquids...I am 1 week 1 day post op and can't take it anymore. Did anyone try soft foods early? Like really soft foods? Cottage cheese, or other soft cheese, scrambled eggs? I mean if I chew it to puree how is that different than a thick gross shake?

I didn't advance my diet.

Anecdotally, of the people in my one week post-op follow-up nutrition class, the people who were following the food program were doing great. The people who had started trying food off of the program early were miserable.

I don't know if they were miserable before they decided to eat off plan or not, but it made an impression on me.

my plan was Clear Liquids for in the hospital, then full liquids until the two week mark.

when I went in for my one week follow up I was doing very well, and I asked about starting soft foods - and they told me in the next few days I could go ahead but to choose really soft things (they gave me a list - scrambled eggs were NOT on the list, however that was due to so many people having trouble with eggs. I wanted to try them, they told me just go slow only a bite or two and see how it set with me)

so, I did. and I didn't have a problem. but my point is I saw my doctor and talked to my team. I just didn't decided for myself that I was healed enough to move my diet forward.

Sounds like we had similar plans....I see the surgeons assistant Friday. Don't know if I'm gonna make it. I had a tiny amount of cheese today. Seems fine. I'm trying....it's so hard. Hungry and I hate shakes......although my HW was 338. Surgery weight was about 325. Current weight is about 310. Surgery was 5/24/16.....

I would try and stick to the plan. I am 3 weeks post op, and on the puree stage and itching to get to soft food. I have stuck to orders to the letter, but that's just me. I am paranoid that if I defer from the plan, things will go wrong both in my new belly (I call it tiny) and in my head. If I start to divert from the plan, where will I stop, I have never been able to trust myself around food and just have a little bit, that's how I got myself into this predicament. So for me follow the rules. I figure I have the rest of my life to eat, I can stick to the plan for 4 weeks!

I had Soups, yakult (drinking yoghurt) fruit juices, smoothies made with yoghurt and fruit and Protein powder and the dreaded shakes.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
