Well I am preparing myself to start my liquid diet and by doing that I have been on a diet of my own. I cut back all sugar drinks, gatorade, iced tea, soda even milk. I also stopped eating late at night before bed I am down 10 lbs just in a week by doing that alone! I also cut my portions down. I am always hungry but I think it will get better...I am just keeping myself busy. I do notice I have been sleeping WAY better. Its crazy how food and what we eat can have such a impact of how we feel. That is all I have to say for now lol

my pre-op wasn't liquid. it was 3 meals of 3 oz of Protein, 1 cup cooked veggie or 2 cup raw veggie, 1 starch (1 slice toasted whole grain bread less 80 cals/ 5 saltines/1/2 c beans/ 1/2 c squash/yams) for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was same, except had 1/2 c fruit and 1/2 c cooked veg. get 64 oz liquids. wait 1 hour to drink after eat, 10 minutes to eat after you drink. no beverages with more than 20 cals/8oz, no carbonated beverages, no caffeine, no straws, no gum. it i ended up losing almost 50 pounds.

Mine is not required liquid but I am doing liquid. I had band and gall bladder and then band removed and I'm afraid of difficulties. I want my liver to be small and surgeons to have a large area to work. I want minimal issues.

I am on day 2. Feeding the kids and smelling their yummy food is the hardest. I have a peach of a hubby who did all the work and let me be away from them but still it was hard. Also hard that i need to do this in case of an ins change again meaning that my surgeon will do it before the end of May...or I have to do this again in June for a scheduled vsg June 30th. I'm very thankful for my ins and hope it doesn't change again.

Just finishing up day 4 of a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I guess I am doing OK, but I am pretty sure I'm not "eating" enough. Once I get into the habit of not eating, I kind-of forget to eat. I know that sounds stupid, but it's how I am. I have spent decades not eating breakfast or lunch, so I have become a champion at not recognizing when I'm hungry but then eating a "hearty" meal to compensate. It's how I've kept my girlish figure, I tell ya- LOL! Time for new habits, new outlook, new relationship with food, for sure!

Yesterday my daughter's boyfriend graduated from college and we had his family over here for a BBQ- on day 3 of my liquid diet! The only thing I ate was one bite of grilled chicken breast; my husband brought them in from the grill and, well, old habits die hard. I grabbed a little piece from the plate and stuck it in my mouth without thinking! I also had one taste of homemade baked Beans to make sure they were OK and didn't need anything added. It was hard, though, especially smelling the grilled sausages with sautéed peppers and onions! I am not a sweet eater, so the cheesecake and Peanut Butter bars didn't tempt me, but ooohhhh, the grilled stuff was hard to ignore!

Right now I'm not really sure what I can eat. My pre-op diet says 5 Protein "meals" (basically whey Protein isolate shakes) and 5 servings of liquids daily, but I am not sure what that can be, other than no-sugar, no-calorie drinks. Someone said sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free Gelatin count as liquids. It also lists broth on my acceptable foods list, with a couple of brands, but I am hoping to make my own and freeze it for post-surgery. It also lists the healthy choice Soups (strained) as being acceptable. I am not sure what else can be eaten- although I've read the binder the program provides. If anyone can list the foods they could "eat" on their liquid diet, it might be helpful. TIA!!

I'm on day 2 of my liquid diet & feel nauseous. I'm hiding out & avoiding the kitchen while hubby & kids eat dinner! Surgery is on Thursday.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Days 1 and 2 were the hardest for me. I am currently on day 5 all Clear Liquids. Day 2 I had nausea and headache bad. Feeling much better now. Good luck to all. My surgery is Wednesday!

I can have any sugar free soda, drink mix (like Crystal light or mio) stuff like Vitamin Water zero, tea sweetened with no calorie sweetener, coffee without Creamer, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, broth, can chew sugar free gum also.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
