My doctor is a stickler about sleep apnea and requires a sleep study, and if you don't have your cpap with you the morning of surgery, he will cancel your surgery.

Prior to surgery, I had to have the sleep study test (which I failed and now Horton and I sleep together every night), blood draws, EKG, PFG, 3 NUT appointments, Physical Therapy evaluation, some kind of test for acid in my stomach, and then just a few days ago I had a Pre-op appointment which included another blood draw, another EKG, and a chest x-ray.

My surgery is on May 16th, less than a week away! OMG!

How did your surgery go? I can't wait to hear from you, I have seen you on many post that I read.

I went in to my pre-op testing with the assumption I would expect to be there for four hours since that is what I was told to prepare for. I was in and out in less than an hour. They asked me lots of questions, pulled blood for testing, and that was it. I had already had an EKG during a pre-op visit two months prior, my sleep apnea was no longer an issue (I had lots of nose/throat surgeries for it), and I had already done an endoscopy six months prior because of some GI issues. The pre-op visit was easy-peasy. It really just depends on what your co-morbidities are and what tests they need to run.

Good luck!

Hi everyone, so I've been cleared by my insurance for surgery, just wondering what pre-lab work the doctor required from you and what your doctor sent you for before okay the surgery.

I had already completed my labs (CBC, cholesterol, a1c, etc). My surgeon is just requiring an EKG.

I had a bunch of lab work, EKG, and chest X-ray. This was a few weeks ago. Now that I have my surgery date of 12 July, I need another EKG sometime before surgery.

Well I'm kind of bummed. I had my appointment the dr said bypass my not be an option for me since I had an incisional hernia repair with a large piece of mesh and the mesh would of caused scar tissue possibly to my intestines. He wants to do a sleeve procedure. Problem is my insurance does not cover the sleeve. So I'm feeling really bummed/depressed.

I do not have to do any tests except for the psych eval. My pcp is really on top of my blood work and other tests. I just have my pre-surgery weight to lose.

Do most people have pre-surgery weight to lose? Is this surgeon preference or insurance?

It depends on your doctor and/or your insurance.

The only requirements I had was my 90 day program with my NUT, the psych eval, and then pre op, I had a brief like less than 5 min EKG and bloodwork done. No sleep study, no EGD, no X-ray, or a pre op liquid diet or anything. It was really a lot easier than I expected.

I'm still upset but determined! I have set up all my appointments and should be able to see my surgeon 2nd week of July to get the final decision about my surgery and possibly surgery date. I'm hoping and praying

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
