Will I be able to do this

Recommended Posts

You can do this! I'm entering my 2nd week of pre op diet and it's tough but I'm fighting hard. It was initially supposed to be 1 week but I had to my surgery rescheduled to next week. The pre op diet is more mental than anything. Encourage yourself when you start second guessing and don't be scared to ask for your support system to encourage you!

I certainly wondered if it work, if I would succeed, if it was the right decision, should I do this? I had been overweight so long I just couldn't see myself any other way than morbidly obese. I was afraid to hope. But I really, really was tired of my life like it was, and WANTED to lose weight. So I took the leap with a fear that it would just be another failed attempt at weight loss.

Something happened to me in the first few months. I saw success, and you know what they say about that - success begets success. I started to see that just maybe, it could work, even for me, a career fattie.

Fast forward three and a half years, and yes, it "worked." Actually, what happened is that I worked. The sleeve made it easier, and the metabolic reset that happens after WLS is a gift. It is up to us what we do with it. Some have greater success than others, and some have to work harder, but generally speaking, if you put in the work you will be rewarded!

Thank you for this word of advice, you just described me to a tee. You really gave me hope. Thank you. Kim

I was afraid I would be the only person the sleeve didn't work for, because no matter what I did before I couldn't loose much weight, but if you follow the plan, it works.

hang in there. I think the first 2 weeks po are the hardest part. *head games* it's brutal.

@@Christinamo7 can you please elaborate about the 2 weeks post op and "head games"? I want to prepare. Thanks!

well, you've just changed your life, and there's the post op healing and liquid diet. but you think you're hungry. truth is if you tried to eat you wouldn't be able to fit it really. your hormones start going weird. it is a lot to adjust to.

with any other diet you can quit if you decide to, but with this you're in for a penny, in for a pound at the beginning anyway.

I am one week post-op and I am totally gripped by the head games. I love movies. All I have been thinking about all day is eating popcorn and mozzarella sticks. I'll be going home for my grandmother's funeral and I thought more about all of my favorite places to eat than I have about her death. All I think about is the food I could be eating if not for the surgery. Luckily, I realize it's just a head game, and I hope it subsides soon. Eventually, I'll be able to eat those things again-- but in much, much more moderated way.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
