I swear my surgeons office...

Recommended Posts

My surgeons office is becoming a nightmare! I got my surgery approval finally begining of april. I'm still waiting for office to schedule my surgery. They keep calling me and asking for things that I've already given them. They made me get another galbladder sono. Now they are asking when and where I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I gave them that at the very begining (one of my comorbidities). Found out my insurance coordinator never asked for the reports. I swear this woman has been done with me since the first denial I got from my insurance. Once I got denied the secind time it's been hell. Even now that I'm approved it's like she's refusing to move my file forward to get scheduled. I feel like I need to just throw in the towel and go to another surgeon. I was so set on Dr. Kim and getting the inverted gastric sleeve from him but I feel like I'm being punked or I'm on the show boiling point where things are done just to see how far they can push somone before they break. I'm on such a time crunch at work! They keep telling me they need me to put in my time immediately because our office is about to split and after may I won't have any time until December. I hope one day I will be able to come on here with a happy story. Sorry for another rant. :( just feeling defeated.

@@Ashoryb - maybe contact the office manager.

I had sort of a similar situation and backed out of surgery because of a couple of people on the staff at the office. After I stewed on it for a few days I decided to call the office manager. As it turned out apparently I was not the only one who had a complaint and felt uncomfortable with the office staff. My surgeon was NOT the problem.

My call, and the names I gave, confirmed the staff was out of line.

Lesson learned for those in beginning stages - keep a copy of everything you give to your surgeon's office. @@Ashoryb I would call the Office Manager as well. Let them know what's going on and hopefully they'll address it immediately. Good luck.

Call the surgeon's office and have her give you a complete list of EVERYTHING that she needs to before she can forward you to scheduling. Go over that list and if she has everything ask her point blank when your file will be sent to scheduling. If she is claiming she didn't receive something that you know she has you can either resend it or contact the office manager and let her know about the issues you are having.

If you do not hear from the scheduling department quickly (2 days) I would call the office manager and let her know you have time constraints and need to get scheduled quickly or you may not be able to get scheduled until December. You could also threaten to transfer to a different surgeon if they can't schedule you quickly.

Thank you all for your replies. I have tried to call the office manager twice today and each time they put me through to her it rings once and then her voicemail picks up. I called again and asked the receptionist to please verbally tell her I am needing to speak with management asap.

Ok finally sent an email to both the insurance lady and the manager. Told them I needed a date by the 29th of april. And that I have told them repeatedly how much of a time crunch I'm under. My insurance coordinator emailed back saying it's out of her hands..... then about an hour later the manager emailed me back and apologized and said she will absolutely call me by the end of the week. I sure hope she does.

Same here, although mine isn't because of insurance. Its because my surgeon walked out of the practice and now I'm having to wait on a new surgeon. Its so discouraging!!! They say they will be with you through this entire process but when they aren't it's disheartening!!! I hope you get called soon!

If you can't trust the doctor's office to get back to you before the surgery, you might not be able to trust them to get back to you after the surgery, when the stakes are much higher than scheduling issues.

If you have a way to contact the doctor directly, you might want to let them know that his/her office staff is close to making you shop for another surgeon.

As soon as I mentioned I am seeking another doctor, everything started to go right, to some degree. They have a potential 60-100K surgery on their hands and are afraid to lose it. They also want to space them out to keep the continuous flow of cash coming in. After all, It's a business.

Thank you all for your replies. The moment I got the manager involved I got my surgery date. The 23rd of may. I will be happy when I won't have to deal with the coordinator anymore.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
