Did you eat on the 2week liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

I like your tips for seasoning the broth! I will have to try those, because bland broth is really not doing it for me. Normally I don't mind broth, but every day it's getting boring! Thanks for the tips :).

I was supposed to do a two week liquid pre-op, but scheduling conflicts made it 11 days.

I'm allowed 6 Protein Shakes a day (Atkins). Premier shakes are not allowed beforehand, for some reason... I'm also allowed unlimited Clear Liquids. I don't do Jello, so it's mainly been broth with the occasional sf ice pop. I season my broth with everything from vinegar to Rosemary and garlic powder... Curry powder... Depends on my mood. It's a good break from sweet tastes.

I cheated three times. Once I ate an avocado in my curry broth. Twice I ate an egg in my beef broth this was all on the first six days. I went in to sign consent forms for surgery, they weighed me, and I had lost ten pounds in those 6 days.

I didn't tell doc specifics, but I did mention that I had cheated. He said to try and stick with the diet (there are no commitment doubts- I quit smoking six months ago after first meeting him, and I lost 12 subsequent pounds and have kept them off for over 4 months now) but that my choices with which to cheat couldn't have been much better.

I didn't cheat. The preop diet is tough and I think I drank my weight in Water over those 2 weeks. I was allowed 3 Protein shakes/day, unlimited broth, SF Jello and Popsicles. My BMI was 40 and I lost 17lbs in that 2 weeks!

I stuck to the two week liquid diet, pre op. I drank enough diet soda, coffee, and Water to drown a small city. Ah, Diet Coke, how I love thee! It's been three months but I won't go back. There's really nothing in there but chemicals, anyway.

But I digress!

I used my preop as a test for my post op.

It was hard. Super hard. On day 8 I didn't think I was going to make it. I drank my Protein shakes, chugged so much Water I thought I would burst, and went to bed early. After that I knew I would be fine.

You know what I really miss? Being able to chug water. Chug anything, actually. It seems so strange to drink in such small amounts. I'm getting used to it, though.

You can do it.

My pre-op diet was a Protein shake for Breakfast, another for lunch and then a dinner consisting of a lean Protein and bright green veggies...but no limit on the food for dinner.< /p>

Yes I did the 2 weeks of liquid pre surgery. I was instructed to buy unflavored Protein and make Jello and pudding adding 2 scoops of unflavored Protein to it. Also cream of wheat. I added a Splenda pkt and cinnamon. Also Dannon light and fit yogurt. Unsweetened applesauce. I also used unflavored protein mixed with Crystal light. And of course choc. Protein shakes. I was told the purpose was to help shrink your liver for surgery. Apparently it gets in the way reaching the stomach for surgery. Hope this helps.

If I may offer some tips on the pre surgery. Get some unflavored Protein and mix in 2 scoops with a regular size box of sugar free pudding and do the same with sugar free pudding. Then pour 1/2 cup in little bowls. Makes 5 servings. Its considered liquid, it's Protein too.

When making Jello. Dissolve Gelatin in one cup boiling Water and the other cup required mix Protein powder until smooth. Let hot Gelatin cool a little before mixing the two together. As Jello sets up the bottom of dish looks cloudy but taste the same.

It really breaks up the day of just shakes. Keep in mind these will be the same food you'll eat after surgery as well. Good luck!

It's not easy, that's for sure!! Today is day 3 for me. Last night I was so hungry I thought I might gnaw my own arm off.

I am on a two week liquid diet... 5 Protein Shakes, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, and clear broths and of course Water. I am on day two and it sucks!! However, I have been drinking a lot of water to fill myself up and going to bed a lot earlier then normal because I am having caffiene withdrawal. I do recommend that if you are coffee/tea/or soda drinker to try and cut that out while you are still eating normal food so that the liquid diet does having you feel tired and getting a headache as I am experiencing. My surgery is May 9th and I am getting nervous and excited. One thing that my surgeon mentions is that they will close you right back up if they have any concerns about the size and or fatty content of your liver because it is too much of a risk if you do not shrink the liver. I do not want to take any chances in not following the orders because I went through so many hoops to get to this point. I suggest following the orders and if you are going to cheat, cheat within the first few days and then stick to it!!! Also it is important to understand that each person is different and may follow different orders based on their health, weight, and BMI, just because one person only did a few day liquid diet does not mean that your doctor is wrong in telling you that you need 2 weeks. They are not asking anything from you that you don't need to do =)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
