On day 7 and I've been 90% good. 5 of the days I was perfect and the other two days I had a Quest bar and today a bite of taco meat. Not terrible but I'm really trying to be 100%. Surgery is 4/29 and my plan is to be absolutely perfect three days leading up to surgery..

I am on a 5 day liquid diet starting tomorrow (thursday). I bought Jello, pudding, sugar free popsicles, regular gatorade and chicken broth. Anything else I'm missing? I'm really nervous to start it tomorrow. My surgery is also 4/26!! ????

I am on day 7 & cheated twice. Lost 7lbs so far. I am supposed to be on a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Surgery is April 29th. I am so scared and nervous. I do good all day till time to prepare dinner and than I break. I am scared about my surgery but everyone else I know that was bigger than me didn't even have to do a liquid diet but used a different doctor also. So I decided starting tomorrow to not cheat. I have 7 more days. Hope I didn't screw myself up. Called the nut and she said since it was healthy choices I cheated with I'm Fine but I still feel guilty. Good luck!

I'm on Day 2 of the (mostly) liquid diet. I cheated a little today (2 small cheese quesadillas that I baked). OF COURSE, I feel SO guilty now. I'm allowed at least 3 Protein shakes, plus broth, a small bowl of salad, a small cup of crunchy fresh veggies, sugar free Jello and ice pops. But I'm STILL starving. I've seen varied diets, too- just depends on your surgeon, I guess. I'm 5'6, 236 lbs. I get my sleeve surgery on 5/4. I plan to be 100% diligent starting tomorrow. It's just going to take A LOT of getting used to...but I want to lose as much pre-op. I'm hoping post-op the hunger will mostly be gone.

Good luck! And I'm glad I'm not alone :)

I was sleeved 4/13. I'm yet to be hungry, so I wouldn't worry about that part after. Makes it a little easier to stick with the plan.

Hello!

My surgery is set for 4/26 and I literally just learned about this place I'm currently on my 2week Iiquid diet and I ate solid food. After starving all day at work, I came home and ate. Did you all really just drink Protein shakes for 2 weeks???

My pro-op diet was different. It was as follows:

Week 1

-All the Water and sugar-free drinks you want

-All the broth you want

-All the sugar-free Jello you want

-All the sugar-free popsicles you want

-Breakfast and lunch is a Protein shake

-dinner is unbreaded, lean meat on a bed of greens

Week 2

The same as week 1 except dinner is now replaced with a Protein Shake.

I did not cheat on my pre-op diet as I was serious about the surgery. Also, since I was self-pay there was more incentive for me to succeed. (I've noticed that many people who fail have their surgery paid through insurance.)

It is diffucult. I haven't been 100% perfect on mine either. A bite of something here and there. Day 8 for me. My surgery is on the 27th..good luck on the rest of your journey!

No, I didn't cheat, and I won't. I start my pre op liquid diet this Sunday for two weeks, but I also had to complete a two week liquid trial diet prior to my first visit with my surgeon. I didn't cheat then, but it was by no means easy. It was a good trial to do though because now I know what I like, what works for me, and what Protein powders I enjoy. I know which pre made shakes I like, and I have a couple of tried and true Protein shake recipes to make in my blender.

I am determined not to cheat because I want to reduce my risks during surgery as much as I can. My surgeon only requires one week, but said two is better. So two weeks again it is!

That's really interesting that you had to do a trial run before seeing your surgeon, but it's a good idea. I'm finding that after the first 2 days it's gotten much easier. My surgeon said a 2 week diet, but I think every doctor is different. I've heard of some that don't require it at all.

I'm in Canada and my provincial Medicare is paying for my surgery. Requirements are different I guess.

I had a 10 day pre-op diet. I could have full liquids until the day before surgery-that was Clear Liquids only. I did cheat a couple times...I had fruit. I did not cheat for the 5 days leading up to surgery.

I was supposed to do a two week liquid pre-op, but scheduling conflicts made it 11 days.

I'm allowed 6 Protein shakes a day (Atkins). Premier shakes are not allowed beforehand, for some reason... I'm also allowed unlimited clear liquids. I don't do Jello, so it's mainly been broth with the occasional sf ice pop. I season my broth with everything from vinegar to Rosemary and garlic powder... Curry powder... Depends on my mood. It's a good break from sweet tastes.

I cheated three times. Once I ate an avocado in my curry broth. Twice I ate an egg in my beef broth this was all on the first six days. I went in to sign consent forms for surgery, they weighed me, and I had lost ten pounds in those 6 days.

I didn't tell doc specifics, but I did mention that I had cheated. He said to try and stick with the diet (there are no commitment doubts- I quit smoking six months ago after first meeting him, and I lost 12 subsequent pounds and have kept them off for over 4 months now) but that my choices with which to cheat couldn't have been much better.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
