I start mushy food today and I am nervous to eat which seems so silly, but here I am. Last night I went and stocked up on food my surgeon suggested for the mushy phase. One of the items I purchased was Bolthouse Farms Protein Plus (it has 30 grams of Protein for 8 oz). Do you think this is okay to drink? It seems really thick so I am going to cut it with Water but was hesitant to drink it yet. Any feedback would be great.

I wouldn't have been allowed that drink, because it has too many calories and carbs. But I assume you purchased it because it was on the list your surgeon gave you, so it should be okay?

If you are on mushie foods, you should have no problem drinking a Protein Shake. Weren't you drinking them before this stage? But, as the others have said, not all Protein Shakes are created equal. You want to look for one with whey isolate as the main Protein source and not much added sugar or fat.

I was nervous too! one of my favorite things at that stage was touch down taco dip. refried Beans and garlic on the bottom, low fat cream cheese and low fat sour cream mixed with taco seasoning on the top layer. we add cheddar cheese in the Beans, between the layers and on top. bake for 20 minutes or so.

The fam has it with toppings for a chip dip, I just ate it with a spoon and salsa

For the first two weeks I was strictly on liquids, Jello and ice pops so yesterday was the first time I tried to "eat" anything. I am worried about getting enough Protein though and thought about going to GNC to get some Protein powder? I would use the Protein Powder in addition to the other food I have.

I think as time goes on I will figure out what works and what does not. Right now I am confused about almost everything. I called my surgeons office yesterday to ask questions and I am still waiting for someone to call me back.

Protein shakes should be a staple for you in these early months. Almost no one can eat enough "normal" food to get all their Protein in until a few months out. And even then, most of us continue to supplement with at least one Protein shake or bar per day, even years post-op.

Look for shakes with whey isolate as the main protein source (assuming you can handle dairy and aren't vegan?) and low sugar and fat. GNC has a good selection of powders available that you can mix with Water or milk. My nutritionist recommended almond milk, but I hate it, so I use soy milk or just plain Water instead. There are also TONS of options available online. BariatricPal even sells several brands/varieties. There will be some trial and error to figure out which ones you like long term.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
