Yes, I thought it was strange also.

She is worried that with pill cutting, I may not be consistent with the sizes.

I may try it for a week or 2, but if it is getting worse, I will have to try and lower the dose myself.

I don't know how much longer I can go without good night sleep, and other bothersome symptoms.

When I was 0.6 , this is when my insomnia started.

So for me, I think I need to be close to 1.0, but I am only speculating at this stage.

I know, once I lose more weight, it will all change again .... and again

Just tired of feeling really unwell again.

Glad you are doing well !

Please keep me posted with your changes and adjustments.

I have Graves disease.

I had my thyroid destroyed via Radioactive tx, been Hypo thyroid since Dec 2015. On Thyroxine since January 2016.

My surgery had to be postponed when I was hyper thyroid.

Since March 2016 (WLS) I lost total of 9 kg ( approx. 20 pounds),

Seems slow loss, however I did hit the stall couple of weeks ago.

It is normal though,to have stalls, even though they can be frustrating .....

I am interested in thyroid disease weight loss, also.

I had couple of mini binges recently, emotional/head cravings, chocolate made me ill, so had some ice-cream and extra Proteins late at night.

I only started gentle exercises 2 weeks ago.

@ Grave's disease here too. Had my thyroid destroyed by RAI (radioactive iodine) swallow when I was in the Navy Sometime in 1999. Been Hypo and on Synthroid since 1999. I am Pre-op and hope my thyroid does not hinder my weight loss progress. Time will tell.

Currently on 300 Mcg tablet once a day and skipping Sundays. I never knew about taking it with Calcium..will have to watch for that. I take it everynight at bed time and my levels have been steady ever since. I see an Endo once every 6 months, I find the Endo knows a bit more about Graves then my PCP.

@@Killian - that's a pretty high dose. Have you ever tried taking it in the morning on empty stomach? Might be able to have a lower dose that way as I think food and other meds affect it. Having said that, as long as you are consistent, that is the key. I am same as you (graves, RAI in 2012, hypo by 6 weeks post-Rai). Good news is it hasn't hindered my weight loss at all. I am down about 115 pounds since surgery (11 months). I have had to increase my med as it doesn't absorb as easily post-op (at least with bypass). Good luck to you!!

I am 8 weeks post op, and I am steadily losing weight. Lost 12kg (26.4 Ibs) so far.

When is your surgery, and what type of surgery are you having? Sleeve or Bypass?

I am finding that the more weight I lose, my Thyroxine (Synthroid) levels get too high, and I am swinging back to Hyper thyroid again ....

I am glad to learn that you also skip Sunday dose. I will start this Sunday, and see what happens.

I had RAI in August last year (2015), and went Hypo in December last year, 2015

On Thyroxine since January 2016, so this is a new learning curve for me.

I have to have 6 weekly blood tests post surgery, seeing my Endo every 3 months, unless I get issues .....

I take my Thyroxine early in the morning, when I first wake up, on empty stomach, then go back to sleep. This way I can have my coffee and Breakfast when I get up.

Calcium, I take it in the evening.

With weight loss, the Synthroid levels can be affected, and doses need to be monitored and adjusted, if needed.

Good luck with your surgery

Margo

Yes. I have hashimotos and had sleeve April 28. I was approved since my thyroid was in control with meds. I am experiencing"hunger" which other posters are not and I have a sneaking suspicion it's my thyroid disease and "dead" metabolism

I was having hunger pains after my RNY! People on here were trying to tell me it's absolutely not hunger- it's in my head.. Well why do I feel my stomach physically growling? Be wary where you turn for advice, a lot of people are just waiting for a chance to act like they know everything about a body that's not theirs.

I exprienced Hunger post op, I experience hunger These Days.

Post op, on fluids only, like in a Funnel, they go through quickly, and thyroid or no thyroid, majority of people get hungry at this stage.

I get hungry now, if I forget to eat, usually about 4 hours after I ate something before.

More dense Protein food reduces the hunger later on, on a soft, mushy to solid phase.

You are early post op, so hang in there.

Talk with your Dietician/NUT re your hunger

I did, and was suggested to add Protein powders to my fluids, then purees etc

Some people with bypass, I read that some experience Reflux .... You're early post op too

I had the growling stomach, bad hunger early post op, and then noticed my reflux was getting worse. Sleeve can be worse for reflux for some.

Sometimes reflux can mimic hunger pangs and sensations

I have been on Nexium for the past 2 weeks, and this helps my acid reflux and over the top hunger pangs.

Other med I was given, rabeprazole or Somac did not help me.

I am still reasonably early post op - 8 weeks, but I have now gone through all the food phases and changes, and my hunger is real if I don't eat regularly.

Each food stage/phase helped to curb the hunger more for me.

I forgot to add the possibility of Reflux.

Reflux can mimic hunger pangs.

I had bad reflux early post op, then at the beginning of each New food phase. And when I drank too acidy fluids, or forgot to eat for hours, or ate too fast and didn't chew properly.

Got a strong anti-reflux med now, as the original wasn't helping.

Nexium is working for me.

You're so lucky ! :)

Reflux is awful ...

I just had my first ever vomiting episode today ...

My scrambled egg must have been too dry, I ate it too fast, felt reflux/burning getting stronger ....

Travelled up my oesophagus, next was a quick run to the bathroom ....

No nausea though .... weird

@ I am having Gastric Sleeve surgery sometime in September. I have not tried taking it in the morning on an empty stomach, I will give that a try. Problem is, I get up at 3:30 am to catch a 4:15am train..so I kinda roll out of bed into my clothes and out the door. I tend to forget $h!t in the morning, so it has become "routine" for me to take it at night. But lowering the dose would be nice, so will discuss it with my Endo at next appoint in June.

My thyroid is dead and has been for the last 15yrs or so before that it was barely functioning from autoimmune disease and exposure to toxins. I take a high dose of synthroid every day to replace what I'm not making. Weightloss wise, it has effected me. I'm considered a "slow loser" by my NUT. I've never met one of her goals on paper, but I am still losing consistently for me(minus the many many stalls). I'm doing ok though. At the 6 month mark, I've lost around 105lbs since surgery and the rest was from my medically supervised weightloss.

@@Sajijoma - 105 pounds in 6 months is a slow loser??!! I would hate to meet your NUT. She IS nuts! You are doing amazingly well - especially given you have had stalls. Please ignore her "on paper" goals. That's crap. You are doing great!

I agree with Daisee68 : Yes, your NUT is nuts, totally !

Your weight loss is fantastic, Congratulations! This is a loss of almost 8kg a month! (17.5 Ibs per month !) !

My dietician (NUT) told me that losing 1-1.5 kg per week is normal and good. Up to 6 kg per month ( 9-13 Ibs)

good luck with your nutty NUT ..... maybe you can get a saner one .....

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
